THE PRINCIPLES OF NECROMANCY Artist Eamon Winkle Nominated for Russ Manning Award
Hot on the heels of the exciting debut of the Magma Comix macabre series, artist Eamon Winkle is nominated for the Russ Manning Award
San Diego publisher Magma Comix is excited to share that The Principles of Necromancy artist, Eamon Winkle, has been nominated for the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award!
Winkle is a California-based comic book artist and illustrator. When he’s not drawing, he’s thinking about drawing or planning what he should draw next. His works have been published in Sumerian Comics, Advent Comics, Scout Comics, Black Caravan Press and more.
The Russ Manning Award is presented to an artist early in their career that “shows a superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics.” It was named after Russ Manning, creator of Magnus, Robot Fighter and illustrator of Star Wars and Tarzan comic strips. The winner will be announced at the annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony at San Diego Comic-Con International 2024 on Friday, July 26.

I couldn’t have gotten to this point in my artistic journey without all the people who have done so much to encourage me along the way. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity and letting me create and share my artwork with you all.”

About The Principles of Necromancy: While brave knights and dangerous monsters wage endless war, business is booming for Dr. Jakob Eyes, a traveling physician whose arcane remedies are the closest thing to magic the world knows. These gruesome miracles are only stepping stones for Dr. Eyes’ ultimate ungodly goal: to overcome death itself.
Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, The Principles of Necromancy #1 and #2 are now available in comic shops, digitally at Global Comix, and available in back stock at both Diamond and Lunar Distribution, with issue #3 dropping June 26. The trade paperback release will be available in comic book stores Aug. 28 and everywhere else Sept. 10.
Winkle, Lanzing and Kelly will be attending San Diego Comic Con International, July 24-28, appearing at the Magma Comix booth (#1709). Keep an eye out for an announcement of Magma’s full slate of plans for their hometown show.
