BOX OF BONES by John Jennings and Ayize Jama-Everett Kickstarter Launch; Black History Like You’ve Never Seen Before from Rosarium Publishing

On Monday, February 10, 2020, Rosarium Publishing will launch its Kickstarter campaign for Box of Bones, a graphic novel project from Ayize Jama-Everett and two-time Eisner Award winning, New York Times Best Selling artist John Jennings.

When Black graduate student, Lyndsey, begins her dissertation work on a mysterious box that pops up during the most violent and troubled time in Africana history, she has no idea that her research will lead her on a phantasmagorical journey from West Philadelphia riots to Haitian slave uprisings. Wherever Lyndsey finds someone who has seen the Box, chaos ensues. Soon, even her own sanity falls into question. In the end, Lyndsey will have to decide if she really wants to see what“s inside the Box of Bones.

Described as “Tales from the Crypt Meets Black History,”“ Box of Bones is a supernatural nightmare tour through some of the most violent and horrific episodes in the African Diaspora. “My hope is that this work is transformative to the industry,”“ says Ayize Jama-Everett, “showing creatives and publishers that narratives around black people in the US are as diverse and marketable as any other stories.”“ According to John Jennings, “We created Box of Bones because we wanted to figure out a creative way to talk about black history and teach people about the injustices that black folk have had to endure. We were thinking about the Movement for Black Lives and our current political climate and how violence against people of color has been both normalized and erased. Box of Bones is way to talk about that erasure and present a narrative that embraces a righteous rage about black pain but also talk about what happens when you let yourself indulge in that rage too much.”
