McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Gold Label Icon (Icon & Rocket: Season One) Figure Review
The Arrival of an ICON
There comes a time in every collector’s life when a figure arrives that makes them pause, take a deep breath, and say, “Finally!” That time is now. McFarlane Toys has unleashed their DC Multiverse Icon figure, and let me tell you, it’s been a long time coming.
Milestone Comics introduced me to Icon way back in 1996, and seeing him in action figure form? Yeah, that’s a big deal. So, is this figure everything I hoped for, or is it just another missed opportunity? Let’s crack open the box and see what we’ve got.
Head Sculpt: The Look of a Legend
Right off the bat, the head sculpt is impressive. McFarlane managed to capture Icon’s presence, and those yellow eyes? They add an extra layer of intensity that makes this figure stand out. Could it be sharper? Maybe. But does it work? Absolutely.
Costume & Paint: Clean, Crisp, and Ready for Battle
The paintwork on this figure is solid—crisp, clean, and free of any noticeable issues. That’s a win. McFarlane used a body mold inspired by Earth 2 Superman, and honestly, it fits Icon like a glove. He looks powerful, dynamic, and ready to lay down some intergalactic justice.
Cape & Articulation: Pose Like a Pro
Now, let’s talk cape technology. McFarlane went with their signature vinyl-like material, which looks good, but let’s be honest—it’s not everyone’s favorite. However, the bendy wire along both sides? That’s where the magic happens. You can pull off some great action poses without the cape looking stiff or awkward.
Speaking of posing, Icon’s articulation is what you’d expect from a McFarlane DC figure, not mind-blowing, but functional. He can fly, he can glide, and he can throw down in a fight. For display purposes? It gets the job done.
Size Comparison: How Does He Stack Up?
Icon scales well with Earth 2 Superman, but he absolutely towers over the Action Comics #1000 Superman, which, let’s face it, is starting to show its age. If you’re putting him on a shelf next to other McFarlane DC Multiverse figures, he’s going to hold his own.
Accessories: Good, But Could Be Better
As far as standard DC Multiverse releases go, the accessories are… fine. Interchangeable hands are nice, but let’s be real, some power effects or an extra head sculpt would have made this figure legendary. And while we’re at it, can we talk about those oversized open hands? McFarlane, we love extra hands, but let’s dial down the size a bit, okay?
Final Verdict: A Must-Have for Milestone Fans?
At the end of the day, this is a great addition to any DC Multiverse collection. It’s clean, well-designed, and finally brings a major Milestone Comics character into the action figure spotlight. Would I love to see a classic version of Icon down the line? Absolutely. But for now, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the expanding diversity in McFarlane’s DC Multiverse lineup.
So, what do you think? Is Icon a must-have, or are you holding out for more Milestone heroes? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
