Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select Silver Centurion Iron Man Figure Review

Today in the Toyverse, I travel back down the Marvel Select route, and look at one of Diamond Select’s newest offerings, that of course being the Silver Centurion Iron Man. This figure is one amazing piece. Other versions have come out from different companies, but for this reviewer, this version has to be by far the most amazing version yet. Let’s break him down and examine this figure a bit more in depth.

The Sculpt:

I really have to point out just how damn beautiful this figure is. The metallic red and silver paint job catches your eye and is really beautiful. For under 30 bucks, this figure looks more like a 100 dollar figure. the design of the figure just feels like Tony Stark jumped off the comic page. Many comic based figures tend to loose something in plastic form, and with this figure, based on the artwork I have looked at, he is pretty damn spot on. I have to tip my hat to the DST team for the hard work they pulled off.

The Articulation:

Mr. Stark may be limited to some, but overall I think he works good. The head is on a dumbbell joint that moves around fine, but his head going back is a bit limiting due the sculpt. I only bring this up due to the ability to make Tony fly. But by no means is it a deal breaker. The upper body rotates side to side, turns left and right, and bend down a good amount and goes back slightly. Once again a little disappointing but not a deal breaker. The waist rotates as well. the arms have some great movement. They go in and out, all around. and hold their position. A bicep cut and single hinge and swivel at the elbows follow, and round off with rotation hinges at the hands. The kick out great, go forward and back, and can do the splits. A thigh cut follows, along with a single hinge at the knee. And the feet go up and down, and rock side to side. So overall a good mix of everything.

The biggest area besides sculpt were this figure shines is in the accessories. If you want an Iron Man with some cool items, this version doesn’t disappoint. Lets talk blast effect. You get two blue repulsor beams that can peg into a set of hands or used as the feet. You get a set of hands with yellow beams coming out that look wonderful. You rocket blast effects that can peg into those repulsor hands and feet that are done well. You also get a chest beam affect that plugs in really well, and has a nice translucent purple effect. Also packed in is an alternate head that is some sort of scientific robot look, and an unmasked head which represents Tony quite well from this era. Rounding out the figure is a flight stand, a set of fists, and two other pairs of open hands.

Overall Thoughts:

I have to say that this figure is a big hit for me. I am not even the biggest Iron Man fan, and I love this thing. My big regret is that I didnt pick it up sooner. I think Diamond Select did a tremendous job. It is a great representation of the character, and I dont think anyone can touch what Diamond did at the price point. If you get a chance, pick it up.
