McFarlane Toys Cyberpunk 2077 Deluxe 12″ Johnny Silverhand Figure Review

Today in the Toyverse, we travel to the year 2077. And it is in 2077 we find the world of Cyberpunk. The creators of the game(CD Projekt) have teamed up with the folks at McFarlane Toys to deliver action figures based on the upcoming game. And up for review today is the McFarlane Toys Cyberpunk 2077 Deluxe 12″ Johnny Silverhand Figure. And before I go into detail here, a very special thank you to the team over at McFarlane for making today’s review possible. As for the Deluxe 12 inch version of Johnny Silverhand, (McFarlane sent over some seven inch figures as well. Be on the look out for those reviews soon!) this figure in some ways is a throwback to the cream of the crop that McFarlane Toys is known for. He has several moving parts, but is designed more as a design piece, versus an articulation piece in your figure collection. So let’s dive into the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and rock out with Johnny Silverhand.

Appearance:

So Johnny Silverhand is a character that is voiced, motion capped, and based on the actor known to many Keanu Reeves. Since the game has not been released yet, I can’t tell you too much about his backstory. However, I can tell you all about the great work McFarlane did with this guy. At a price point of under 40 bucks, this figure has some incredible detail. The head has some beautiful paint and skin tone. The sculpting on the face is detailed and clean. The open mouth has some incredible paint and sculpt work inside of it as well.  And the glasses that Johnny Silverhand rocks, gorgeous paint and detail work. It immediately catches your eye.

As for the upper body design, the front of the vest features a very detailed vest that covers the chest area. Some nice dry brushing, mixed in with wonderful detail makes the vest feel natural and realistic. The back of the vest has a very detailed and wonderful paint job on it as well. The Samurai logo is clean and crisp. As for the arms, Johnny has a nice skin tone that matches up. The left arm has some great tattoo designs on it, and the chromed silver arm creates a very cool contrast to the body. The detail on this cyber arm is great. So much going on with it. The paint matches up, the sculpt creates a robotic feel, and the way  it blends back into the rest of the body is a cool design point.

The lower legs are done in a reddish brown color that breaks up the skin tone color, along with the black of the vest. It has some creases throughout it to break things up,and it looks great. The overall aesthetic here fits in great with the promo images released of this character. The shoes even have some detail and paint applied to them. But I almost forgot to talk about the guitar. This rocker piece has some cool designs on it to make it stand out, and to make the figure come alive. The McFarlane team took the time to make the guitar as colorful, well detailed, and cool,as they did with everything else on the figure.

Articulation:

Now when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077’s favorite rocker, articulation is handled a bit differently than a traditional seven inch figure. Earlier I spoke about traditional McFarlane articulation because this figure features that. You see, with a piece like this, the articulation serves as a bonus. With a piece of this nature, you don’t want to lose the beautiful sculpt work that has been applied. However, if you desire to move him around a little, you have that option. You have a swivel at the head, swivel at the shoulders, a waist twist, and rotation at the feet. Some folks may not like the limitations, but at the end of the day, a figure like this works best as a center piece in a collection. As an added bonus though, the guitar can rotate around to give Johnny some rocker moves. So with a little posing, you can have the figure rock in several ways, which is never a bad thing.

Accessories:

So this version of Johnny actual comes packed in with a few fun items. The first being the dog tags around his neck. I am counting them as accessories because they are a floating piece, and with a little patience, they can be taken off. They have a nice paint job, and a good sculpt to them. The second accessory that he comes with is of course the guitar. And the last piece is a nice display stand. It’s a huge version of bases we see with smaller scale McFarlane figures. It features the Cyberpunk logo and a peg hole for the feet. Overall, these accessories work well with this scale of figure.

Final Thoughts:

Without playing Cyberpunk 2077, some folks may not know if this fits in their collection. However, I feel it has enough crossover appeal and here is why. A beautiful sculpt makes this figure stand out. It’s eye catching, and really a one of a kind collectible in terms of looks. Fans of Mr. Reeves will appreciate it, and fans of the upcoming game are sure to love it. Plus what’s cooler than having Johnny Silverhand hanging out on your shelf while you play the game. So if you dig it, pick it up today.
