McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Batman: Hellbat Suit Deluxe Figure Review
Today in the Toyverse, we dive into the Batman mythos with a relitively new Bat design from DC Comics in action figure form. And who better to show this figure the proper TLC than the team at McFarlane Toys. Of course I am talking about the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Batman: Hellbat Suit Deluxe Figure. And before we dive in, once again, Comic Crusaders can’t express how much we appreciate McFarlane Toys sending this over for review. This bad boy is in hot demand in the collector community and for good reasons. This bad boy is huge, articulated, and looks fantastic on the shelf. Let’s dive in and see why this guy is worth every penny.
Appearance:
Any collectible is only as good as it looks, and I have to say this version of Batman strikes fear across the galaxy. It instantly catches your eye. Part of it is the size, but another part of it is just presence of this thing. Its a massive piece of plastic Bat goodness. Those familiar with the character can instantly see why this thing rocks. But even if you don’t know much about this suit, you still can appreciate it. The Black sheen catches light in a tremendous way, and just gives you a good silhouette of the Batman ready to wreck havoc. The reds on the figure are super sharp and clean. Everything about this figure screams awesome. The hands have a cool edge to them, the gauntlets and big and have cool angles on them, and the helmet is threatening and menacing. Add int he wings(more on that in a bit) and you have a very imposing figure in your collection. Overall I have to say this version of Batman is one that McFarlane knocked out of the ballpark!
Articulation:
One thing I really want to point out is that McFarlane Toys is really trying to execute a good sculpt and good articulation with these figures, and the Hellbat really shines. As big and bulky as he is, the articulation on Hellbat flows pretty well. He has double joints, ball pegs, and articulated wings to name a few. The only thing I wish was better in terms of articulation is the head. But I understand that the head piece is unique in nature, so it doesn’t keep me up at night, but for some it may. He is a delight to pose, and at 20 bucks you would be hard press to find a figure with this much articulation given the size.
Accessories and Final thoughts:
In terms of bonus items, you get a base to peg Hellbat on, you get a really cool trading card, and you get two massive wings to plug into the figure that are articulated. The stand just plugs into his feet and has the DC logo on him. The trading card features a cool bio and beautiful comic art, and then there are the wings. When plugged in, these things make this guy super big, and super intimidating. They can be a bit tricky to plug in at first, but once they are on, they work fine. Plus with the ability to shut them and keep them open, it adds an extra depth to the figure. And in a way they serve as a cape for the figure too.
So what is the final shakedown on this guy? At 20 bucks plus tax, you will not find a better bargain on a piece of plastic meant for collectors in a mass retail setting. The McFarlane Toys team created a piece that any Bat collector can put on their shelf and be proud of. The articulation on a big figure is not easy to pull off but they did it. the paint is sharp and clean. And the appearance of this guy is fun and eye catching. If you can track him in brick or mortar shops get him. If you visit websites like Entertainment Earth, grab one, because he is really a fine piece.
