McFarlane Toys My Hero Academia Eijiro Kirishima Figure Review
Today in the Toyverse I dive into a franchise I know zero about. I mean I have heard people talk about it, but I had to do a ton of research on the character to understand the property more. And that is a theme you are going to find a lot of when you read my reviews about this franchise. And why is that? Well because we dive into the McFarlane Toys My Hero Academia Eijiro Kirishima Figure. Like I stated, I know nothing about the guy, but he has some cool stuff going on with him in action figure form. Also, I want to extend a very special thank you to the folks over at McFarlane Toys for allowing us here at Comic Crusaders to review this figure. So let’s jump into the deep end of the pool and see what is going on with Red Riot.
Appearance:
So one thing you always count on with McFarlane Toys is a beautiful sculpt, and this figure delivers that in spades. The character not looks as how he has appeared in the show and manga, but he looks cool. If you are looking for this character in your action figure collection, this to me represents an amazing version of him. I will talk about the mask and alternate hands more in the accessory section, but those are done great. The default look out of the package is really cool. You have this great expression on his face, and really well designed red spike like hair. The skin tone looks clean, and the overall upper body has some great sculpting on it too. The giant gears that are on the shoulders add a very cool vibe to the character and the figure. The waist has well sculpted and painted “R” logo on it. The pants are done well with sculpted wrinkles through out the legs. I am not sure if the back piece is a torn shirt, but this is done really well too. It has a nice sculpt and paint to it, and since it is made of a softer plastic material, it doesn’t hurt the articulation. And the boots have a really great design on them that overall fleshes out the look of the character.
Articulation:
So for the articulation junkies of the world, you can rest easy because this McFarlane figure flows pretty well in that department. The head moves at the head and neck in multiple directions. The upper body can arch both forwards and backwards, as well as side to side. It can also rotate too, which is nice. The lower upper body does the same too. So you can get multiple poses out of the guy. The arms have a neat butterfly type joints that allow for really good movement. The elbows are double jointed, and the wrists rotate and hinge. The lower body has a great range of motion at the legs. The legs can move forwards and back a little. They can also rotate a little at the legs. Some people would like this work better, but it doesn’t really get in the way for me. The knees are double jointed and hidden very well in the sculpt of the pants. And the feet can rotate and swivel at the ankles, and feature a toe hinge.
Accessories:
Now in terms of accessories, Eijiro Kirishima has a few fun things that he is packed with inside of the package. For starters, we get an alternate style like head. I say it this way because the head is the same, but the hair and mask are all one piece. So all you need to do is take off the default hair, and plug in the hair and mask part. Once you have it on, you have the battle action ready version of the Red Riot. the mask fits well over the head, and this for me, will be the look I display him with. He also comes packed with alternate arms. These arms are his special power that go with the character. All you need to do is pop off the arms and plug in the alternate set. these feature a very well detailed sculpt to them. the rock like look is clear as day, and is well executed. Now the elbows are double jointed, but one arm features a fist, and the other a cool karate chop hand. And for the last accessory is a cool display stand.
Final Verdict:
So how does a character I knew nothing about stack up in action figure form? Short answer, amazingly well! I have fully now dived into this line. I have went back and picked series one. This figure was the first I messed around with, and I love it. The price point is great, and just like a ton of McFarlane figures, this guy continues to impress. McFarlane Toys continues to create magic with every release. The Red Riot has turned out great, and shows that great figures can be made at an affordable price point. I hope whoever reads this gets a chance to pick this guy up, because you wont regret it. Once again I want to thank McFarlane Toys for allowing me to discover a fun figure line.
