McFarlane Toys Rat City Spawn (The Deviant) Action Figure Review
Rat City Spawn (The Deviant) – He’s Here, He’s Wired, and He’s… Kinda Stiff
Look, it’s not that I’m not impressed that we got a Rat City Spawn figure—it’s that I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor at how fast it showed up. First teased at Toy Fair, and now the dude’s on my desk like he teleported in through a necroplasm portal. That kind of turnaround is rare these days. Respect.
Now let’s get into it, because there’s a lot to love, and a few things I’d like to yeet into the void.
First Impressions
The sculpt? Chef’s kiss. The paint? Clean, bold, and moody in all the right ways. And McFarlane didn’t skimp, this guy comes equipped with soft goods, including a wired cape that adds a whole new level of shelf presence. He’s gritty, he’s battle-worn, and he’s ready to overthrow some corrupt corporate overlords in style.
Articulation Woes
And here’s where it gets weird. Everything’s single-jointed. Everything. For a line that’s been killing it with dynamic posing and clever engineering—especially with an in-house IP like Spawn—this feels like a step back. A figure like this should be breaking poses, not breaking our hearts with limited range.
Can I pose him? Sure.
Can I pose him like I want to? Not really.
Accessories to the Rescue
Thankfully, he doesn’t show up empty-handed. Rat City Spawn comes with:
2 necroplasm effect pieces
2 extra hands
A collector card
A display base
It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s appreciated and the effects do add a little flair that helps make up for the articulation hiccups.
Final Verdict
If you’re building out your Spawn shelf, or just want something that screams “gritty sci-fi vigilante energy,” this guy still earns his keep. The design is on point, the shelf presence is solid, and the accessories give you enough to play with, even if the joints won’t.
Just… don’t expect yoga pose
