Mezco Toyz Presents: Mezco Exclusive One:12 Collective Doc Nocturnal Figure Review

Out of the night, and ready to take flight, Doc Nocturnal the ‘Phantom Knight’ has been released from Mezco Toyz. This action-packed original concept design from Mezco is a whole lot of fun. I have to say, the original design department from Mezco has been a real treat so far. From the Roach, to the Baron Bends, to the Pink Skulls, it’s just neat to see a company do original concept figures. So, let’s break down this pulp icon.

Packed into this amazing release besides the figure, is a wonderful 48-page comic book that is just stunning. Also in this package is a exclusive screen printed shirt featuring original Doc Nocturnal art. And if that wasn’t enough, you get an exclusive retro wax pack collectible card set. The original art on this set is cool, and it adds to the overall well-deserved hype this figure has. Speaking of which, this figure is one that catches your eye right off the bat. The details of the costume are just cool. The color choices of black and red, against the white skull head are eye-catching. The costume has a nice retro look to it, and the added hood over the top of the skull, adds for some fun options. Speaking of the skull, I don’t know the choice behind having it be a skull, but you love it right away. The presence he has in a photo or on the shelf is special.

As for the articulation, the costume doesn’t really hinder any movement at all. The head doesn’t go back as much as I would like, but it works great side to side and looking down. As for the body, he moves great at the chest and waist. No real restrictions side to side, or up and down. The arms work tremendous. They go in and out and have double bends at the elbows that get great motion for any pose. The wrists are standard for Mezco, allow for free form movement. The legs continue the trend of great movement, and between the thigh cuts and the double bend knees, this guy can really soar in the movement department. The ankles are a little tight, but you can still move them up and down, and have them rock side to side.

In terms of accessories, he is loaded with some fun items. Let’s first start with the guns. Doc Nocturnal comes with a Ferryman Bespoke handgun. This laser style gun looks to be Doc’s trademark weapon. He has a skull logo on it that fits on his holster with ease. The Tommy Gun is a nice addition that comes with two removeable drum magazines. This new pulp icon also comes with a death ray with a removable GID (glow in the dark) beam effect. The detail on this death r ay is cool and crisp and fits onto the figure with no real issue. Adding to all of that, you also get two-gun blast effects that work with the two other guns. You get an alternate head portrait that glows in the dark, and can be used with the gas mask that is also packed in. You also get four hades inferno grenades, an iron talon grapple claw, a grapple claw with poseable wire, the night watch apparatus and the super sonic disruptor that plugs into his belt. Along with a poseable cape and display base with stand and one:12 bag to store the items. I have to say, he is jam packed with goodies.

Overall, Doc Nocturnal is a treat. Mezco provides something fresh and unique that stands out in a sea of action figures in 2020. I love the fact that Mezco isn’t afraid to take risks with original IP’s. It’s not an easy feat to pull off, but every release they put out becomes something magical. I hope we see more figures from the Doc Nocturnal universe, and I cant wait to add them to my collection.
