Mezco Toyz One:12 Collective Superman 1978 Figure Review
Today in the Toyverse, we travel down an iconic road, and we get to examine the Mezco Exclusive Superman from the 1978 film. Now this remarkable performance from the late Christopher Reeve is the version of big blue that many fans hold in the highest regard. Some of these fans also tend to worship him on a God like level, and can’t seem to let go of the past, but the actor won over many people’s heart, so you can’t argue against it too much. I will admit, this was my first interaction with Superman, so when Mezco announced this, I was all on board. Let’s break him down and examine this much beloved(and sometimes stalker like love) version of this character in One:12 form.
The Look:
When it comes to the design of a character based on film, it is always a gamble. I am happy to say overall, this is a beautiful version of the character as he appeared in that 1978 classic. When you open this figure out of the tin that is designed like the poster art, you can hear the John Williams music playing. Holding the figure in hand, I do dig it a lot. The head sculpts of Reeve(there are three) all came out good. The smile head isn’t the worst, but the other two heads look amazing. The suit is designed with a nice cloth, and the trunks look tremendous as well. The S logo came out fantastic as well. Some people complain about the boots, but its honestly not a bother to me. The cape has a bendable wire, and features the yellow S shield as well. Overall, its a beautiful figure out of package.
The Articulation:
As for the movement of Superman, I really don’t have much to complain about. His head has great movement, and allows him to look up, and get into flying poses with ease. The costume really doesn’t hinder him in terms of articulation. His arms can get into the flying pose, and have double bends in them. The diaphragm at the body flows well, and once again, works great for articulation. The legs kick forwards and backwards, have thigh cuts, double bends at the knees and foot articulation at the boot. In my opinion, Superman delivers on all fronts.
The Accessories:
Well I have to say this, the Mezco team packed in pretty much everything except Luthor’s wig. I mean the guy has the kryptonite necklace, two kryptonite clear crystals, one green kryptonite green crystal, multiple heads and hands, a chuck of kryptonite, a cool tin, and a light up Krypton display base. This base has two features. You can either just leave it on with a switch of a button, or you could place the green crystal in a slot to get it to light up. No Jor-El head is included, but you can use your imagination.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I really am impressed by this DC character done by Mezco. I know people hold Christopher Reeve in high regard, and although I roll my eyes at it sometimes, I do understand why. This figure from Mezco captures that love that people have for the film, actor, and character in such a beautiful fashion. Now this was a Mezco exclusive, you can always try the wait list, or head down the secondary market. I hope you enjoyed today’s review, and I hope you enjoy the photos. If you picked this guy up, let me know in the comments.
