Mezco Toyz One:12 Collective The Warriors Deluxe Box Set Review

So today we return to the land of Comic Crusaders to talk about one of cult classic films known as the Warriors. Now of course it isn’t a film review, today it’s all about the Mezco Toyz One:12 Collective The Warriors Deluxe Box Set. Now usually I come out here and talk a bit and then show you some fancy video. And normally I would be up for that, but I am so behind on toy reviews, that I wanted to get this out as soon as possible. So today we are going to just write about this box set and go from there.

Presentation:

The packaging on this thing is phenomenal. It comes with that beautiful Warriors artwork printed on the front, and is in a collector friendly tin box set that shines and has some weight to it. On the back of the tin you get to see all four of the action figures in this set. It’s a nice little touch that is cool to show off to your collector friends or even your crazy uncle who swears that’s how New York use to be growing up.

The Figures:

Let’s kick things off by first looking at Ajax and Swan. Both figures do features alternate sculptures, but Mezco did a really job with this set. Mezco is no stranger to the brand that is the Warriors, and both figures fit in great as One:12 Collective pieces. The paint for the characters is spot on, and the cloth goods look tremendous. I know everyone has a certain taste for a Warrior’s character, but Swan and Ajax are the face of the Warriors, and Mezco in my view, made the right choice in putting in these two guys. Would of liked to see some of the other folks, yes! But I understand the choice for these two characters. From the boots to the vest, they will pop on a shelf.

Now let’s move on to those wacky and demented Baseball Furries. In this two pack extravaganza we get not only a lone Baseball Fury member, but we also get the Baseball Fury Leader. As for aesthetic, they are pretty much the same. The outfit is just wonderful. When I look at the baseball uniform I not only see the something beautiful, but I also see a chance for Mezco to make great sports figures if they ever chose to do so. From the cleats to the uniform, to the baseball uniform belt, tot he layers that make up a uniform, it;s all here. The regular Fury comes with one head with screen accurate face paint, and the leader has two heads that capture this sick dude’s expressions in the movie just right! It’s really a fantastic representation of these characters in action figure form.

Articulation:

Now the Warriors overall have good articulation. I can already hear people complain about how the neck and head are set up, and how they have single jointed elbows. And I get how that matters to some, but to me it doesn’t. They bend at the elbows, the arms have rotation, double jointed knees, and effective diaphragms make it effective. Would I like all the stuff that isn’t included? Of course, but what it here is not horrible and if I can create stop motion with the guys, it will satisfy many collectors.

Accessories:

So whatsÂ included with the Warriors that make them shine? Actually quite a bit. For Ajax and Swan I already pointed out alternate heads, but they have lots of different hands to go with them. Punching hands, griping hands, gloved hands, non gloved hands, and opened hands. But if that doesn’t sell you, how about two moltov cocktails? Not your fancy either…well what about two bats? Still not enough…well…what about a switchblade and handcuffs? If that doesn’t make you blush, I can’t help you out. I love the detailed designs with the weapons, and it’s cool to have some fun toys to cause chaos with.

As for the Furries, only one alternate head for the leader. However we have two baseball bats, a whole bunch of open hands, closed hands, and griping hands. It sounds a bit less, but I honestly ask you this question. What else could they have provided to the baseball gang. Catcher mitts? Bloody hands? Many alternate heads to fill out the team? I don’t know, but I do know that what is here I don’t hate. Also included is four bases for the figures, two baseball ones, and two warrior ones. Four, not three, not six, Mezco bags to store your items, and four flight stands to balance out everything in this box set.

Go-Home Moment:

Overall, the Warriors set is quite impressive. It has four solid characters that although share similar costumes respectively, still manage to feel like each individual character they represent. Now this box set may not be for everyone, but if you enjoy something that isn’t a caped hero on your shelf this looks great. If you love cult films, this is a great piece.
