An Untold Conflict That Redefines Dakota’s Place in DC History.
A Milestone One-Shot Exploring Power, Heroic Legacy, and the Cost of Survival
Alright, buckle up because Milestone is back in a BIG way and DC just cracked open a vault they should’ve opened a long time ago.
DC Comics is leveling up its evolving canon with New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident, a 48-page, standalone powerhouse one-shot that digs deep into a long-buried flashpoint in Milestone history and when I say flashpoint, I mean the kind that sends shockwaves through the entire DC Universe. This isn’t a footnote. This is Dakota City standing front and center as a battleground, and the consequences? Still echoing loud.

Leading the charge is Joseph P. Illidge, a true architect and guardian of Milestone’s legacy, joined by an all-star squad of storytellers Stephanie Williams, Morgan Hampton, and Nikolas Draper-Ivey with jaw-dropping art from Carlo Pagulayan, Valentine De Landro, Edwin Galmon, and more. And the covers? Absolute heat from Diego Olortegui, Denys Cowan, Dan Jurgens, Yasmine Putri, Pagulayan, and Sway. Yeah… they came to flex.

What makes The Dakota Incident hit different is Illidge’s touch. This isn’t just history being retold it’s history being recalibrated. Dakota’s heroes aren’t asking for a seat at the table anymore; they’re taking control of the narrative. This story positions Static, Rocket, and the rest of Dakota’s champions in a fight that goes way beyond superpowers. This is about identity, autonomy, and the right to define themselves inside a system that’s always tried to box them in.

Spinning directly out of New History of the DC Universe, this untold chapter drops a bomb: a murder that ignites an all-out war between the heroes of Dakota City and the U.S. government led by none other than Lex Luthor. Dakota becomes a war zone. Lines get crossed. Heroes fall. And the question hangs heavy: what do you sacrifice to protect your city, your people, and your family? Because while the past takes its pound of flesh… the future is quietly setting the stage for a return.

And if you want to catch the energy in real life, Joseph P. Illidge is hitting the streets:

Later that night – Whatnot with Sexual Chocolate, Nikolas Draper-Ivey & Sway (7:30–10:30 PM)
