Things are about to get real weird… and real dangerous in The Department of Truth. 🦖🔥
Eisner Award–nominated artist Ben Templesmith the twisted visionary behind 30 Days of Night, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, and Fell is officially stepping into the shadows as the interior artist on James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ bestselling Image Comics thriller. And he’s not just popping in he’s kicking off an all-new, savage story arc starting next month with The Department of Truth #36.
This is one of those creative matchups that feels inevitable in hindsight. Tynion revealed that Templesmith was one of the very first artists they dreamed of bringing into the series way back at launch, making this collaboration feel like a long-buried conspiracy finally clawing its way to the surface. According to Tynion, Ben fits perfectly into the book’s warped reality and what they’ve been building over the last few months is going to shake the series in a big way.
What’s coming?
• The buried history of one of the Department’s legacy families
• The evangelical origins of Charity, the deadliest new member of Lee’s crew
• And yes… dinosaurs. Lots of dinosaurs.
Templesmith, never one to undersell chaos, summed it up perfectly comparing himself to the kid you definitely shouldn’t give scissors to. But when handed the razor-sharp world Tynion and Simmonds have created? It’s been an absolute blast letting loose and leaving scars all over the page.
The new arc drops readers into the early ’90s, when cable TV rules the world and something ancient is watching us through the static. Enter Hunky, the reclusive son of the Department’s very first hunter, who may be the only person taking the threat seriously. When he uncovers signs of primordial evil brewing at an evangelical theme park deep in the Florida Everglades, everything spirals fast. At the center of it all is Charity beautiful, dangerous, and caught between forces far older than she understands. And if Hunky fails? The consequences won’t stay buried.
New artist. New secrets. Old horrors waking up.
The Department of Truth just got even more unhinged and we’re here for it. WEPA.
