Yo, so picture this: three sisters—Jesse, Ryelyn, and Haddy—cruisin’ out of Chicago, blasting their favorite jams… until Jesse hits ‘em with the OG ogress legend. She’s talking a baby‑eatin’, man‑devouring she‑beast lurkin’ under the earth, and already we’re feelin’ the chills! By the time they roll up to Mom’s new husband’s farmhouse in Indiana, the vibe’s straight‑up horror movie.
Jesse: Our big‑sis narrator, carrying that heavy “I know something’s wrong” energy. When she peeks downstairs and sees Mom commit the ultimate no‑no, her eyes go wide—and so do ours (trust me)!
Ryelyn & Haddy: The dynamic duo of wide‑eyed terror. They’re tag‑team freak‑out pros, but gotta stick together to survive.
Mama… or Monster?: One minute she’s kissin’ foreheads, the next she’s swingin’ a wrench. We still aren’t sure if she’s lost it or if some ancient evil puppeteered her moves.
We love how Anthony Cleveland plants that folktale seed early—because every time the ground rumbles, you’re like, “Yo, is that Mama‑ogress callin’?” That mix of family drama and straight‑up supernatural terror hits different. You feel Jesse’s guilt, Mom’s rage, and something clawing up from below… and it’s all juuust enough to keep you up at night.
Artist‑colorist Alex Cormack is flexin’ serious skills:
-
Wide‑angle farm shots that feel peaceful… until they don’t.
-
Close‑up freak‑out faces where every sweat bead and tear is on full display.
-
Twisted panels that warp your mind—like you’re right there, feelin’ that unease.
And when the reds pop in those violence moments? FIRE!
Cormack’s palette slides from warm golden hour to chilly midnight blues faster than you can say “boo!” Then Justin Birch’s lettering drops whispers and screams in fonts that sneak up on you. Trust—those jagged word balloons will have you double‑checking your shadows.
This ain’t just a slasher flick—this is family betrayal amped up by ancient evil:
-
Blood Runs Cold – Mom’s violence flips the “family safety” script.
-
Guilt Feeds Fear – Jesse’s lie? It’s like fertilizer for whatever’s burrowin’ below.
-
Isolation Amplifies – Out in the sticks, your phone’s useless, and help is miles away. Perfect horror recipe.
We’re giving Buried Long, Long Ago #1 two big WEPA fists up! Anthony Cleveland’s storytelling hooks you, Alex Cormack’s art grips you, and the whole package drops you into a nightmare you won’t shake. If you crave horror that gets under your skin—and under the earth—this is your new obsession.
Stay tuned, Comic Crusaders fam—next issue, that subterranean beast is breakin’ free, and we’re front‑row for the carnage. Wepa!
