Comic Book Artist Mark Spears Makes History With An 8 Issue Comic Book Series.

Now seeking community support via Kickstarter, a frightening new comic book series by Spawn, DC Comics and Power Rangers artist Mark Spears.

Comic book artist Mark Spears has announced an exciting new crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for his comic book series titled ‘Monsters’.

Mark has already made history this year in the comic book world, starting in March as the Spotlight Artist of the month for Todd McFarlane and with that honor creating four covers for the Spawn titles in the same month.  Since then Mark has burst onto the comic book scene to create 25 comic covers for DC Comics, Darkhorse, Spawn and Boom Studios Power Rangers, with 19 covers that will be due out next year.  “I believe that is the most mainstream comic covers ever done by a first year comic book artist in that time span.”  Mark was also featured on MeTV’s Svengoolie as the featured artist in July.  Wrapping up a stellar year, Mark plans to make history yet again with his completed artwork on 8 issues of his creator owned comic book series MONSTERS.  The most issues ever offered on a crowdfunding campaign he believes. “I’ve never seen any other campign offer something like this. Usually they have a few pages of art done and are trying to raise money to complete the project. I have finished all eight issues already.

” ‘Monsters’ is a superhero, sci-fi, horror, and mystery comic series that he worked on this year in his spare time.   This will be the first time fans will get to see his interior artwork and will let Mark flex his storytelling muscles.  “I talked to some comic publishers but decided I wanted to do it myself so it’s entirely my vision and no one can change it.”  The series revolves around a retired monster slayer and two detectives trying to solve a string of murders.  But don’t worry, there are plenty of classic monsters in the series as well.  Spears received the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards ‘Artist of the Year’ for 2020 and has since made three trading card series featuring his monstrous creations simply titled ‘Mark Spears Monsters’.

In 2022 Mark created the movie poster for the Spirit Halloween movie starring Christopher Lloyd and his monster artwork was shown in the film as well. The 48-year old Alabama native once worked in the licensing side of the comic business for both Marvel and DC Comics in the past, having his artwork turned into statues and figurines but his goal was to always work on the storytelling side of the business.  “I always had this dream that I would one day come back to comic books when I was drawing trading cards, magazine covers and movie posters.  “A comic book editor called me on the phone back when I was 20 and told me that I would never work in comics and that I was too old because 16 year-olds were much better than I was.  It just motivated me even more.

It’s been a long journey but I feel like I am finally where I wanted to be all along.”  Mark’s new comic series Monsters is on kickstarter now and will go through Christmas eve.  Early backers can secure their own homage covers, signed comics and many other options for rewards.  Some covers offered have a very limited print run of just sixty-six.
