Skybound Unleashes Corpse Knight Variant Cover Series by Nimit Malavia Ahead of April Debut

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics just pulled back the curtain on a stunning new Corpse Knight variant cover series from acclaimed artist Nimit Malavia (The New Gods), and yeah… these things look absolutely heavenly and haunting at the same time.

Set to hit comic shops on April 22, 2026, Corpse Knight #1 launches a brand-new original series from a killer creative squad: writer and co-creator Michael Chaves (The Conjuring Franchise), artist and co-creator Matthew Roberts (Universal Monsters: Creature from The Black Lagoon Lives!), colorist Rico Renzi (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), and letterer Pat Brosseau (Creepshow). For fans of dark fantasy, gothic horror, and supernatural action in the lane of White Sky, King Spawn, and The Darkness, this one is coming in loud.

The new themed variant series by Malavia will run across all six issues of Corpse Knight, with each cover available as a 1:25 incentive variant. Every piece highlights a major character from the series, framed in breathtaking stained-glass imagery that feels equal parts sacred, eerie, and metal as hell.

Malavia broke down the vision behind the covers, explaining that the original concept centered on creating faux-Renaissance-style portraits for the book’s main cast. From there, the idea evolved into something even richer and more symbolic.

According to Malavia, the series’ time period, the role of Joan, and the themes of life, death, and miraculous rebirth made it feel natural to present the characters with a saint-like aura. That concept eventually expanded into the use of stained-glass imagery, giving the covers both a striking visual identity and a deeper thematic connection to the story’s religious undertones.

He also noted that the stained-glass framework allowed the team to weave in subtle iconography, story clues, and ornamental details while making the Corpse Knight title feel seamlessly integrated into the design. In plain talk? These covers are not just pretty—they’re built with purpose.

And the story itself? Straight-up gothic fire.

As war tears through France, a young girl named Foy tries to live peacefully with her father—until tragedy shatters everything. Left to survive on her own, Foy receives what seems like a miracle when her father rises from the dead to protect her.

From there, the two are thrown into a dangerous and sacred journey through a brutal countryside crawling with killers, wild beasts, roving armies, and dark magic. But as the truth behind the Corpse Knight begins to unfold, Foy is forced to confront a brutal question: has the man beside her always been a monster?

That setup alone is enough to make horror and fantasy fans lean all the way in.

And if the main series wasn’t already stacked, Corpse Knight #1 is coming loaded with a monster lineup of variant covers. Alongside Malavia’s 1:25 incentive variant, the debut issue also features a main cover by Matthew Roberts and Rico Renzi, an open-to-order variant by Jae Lee, a 1:10 “storybook” incentive cover by Tonči Zonjić, a 1:50 incentive cover by Andrea Milana, a 1:100 foil incentive cover by Stephanie Hans, a die-cut helmet cover by Matthew Roberts, a blank sketch cover, and an I Hate Fairyland Team-Up variant by Stipan Morian.

So yeah, Skybound is not playing around with this one.

Corpse Knight is shaping up to be one of those books that doesn’t just hit the shelf—it arrives with a whole mood. Dark, emotional, violent, mythic, and visually rich, this series has the kind of energy that could turn heads fast, especially with Malavia delivering a variant cover lineup this stylish and story-driven.

If you’re into horror comics with soul, fantasy comics with bite, and covers that deserve to be framed like church windows from the underworld, Corpse Knight needs to be on your radar right now.
