When the guns finally go quiet… the fight doesn’t end. That’s where DOG TAG lives. 🎖️🔥
This spring, Mad Cave Studios drops a hard-hitting, six-issue war series that goes straight for the soul. DOG TAG comes from Mark Russell (Vanishing Point) and PJ Holden (Judge Dredd), with colors by JP Jordan and lettering by Buddy Beaudoin a creative team locked in and ready to tell a war story that doesn’t blink.
Inspired by real events from the final year of World War II, this series follows a soldier-journalist caught in the brutal space between documenting history and surviving it. When you’re carrying a rifle in one hand and the truth in the other, the line between witness and casualty disappears fast.
At the heart of the story is Corporal Tom Fuller, whose journey spans from the invasion of Normandy all the way to the surrender of Japan. This isn’t a victory-lap war comic it’s a deeply human one. Pulling from real accounts and little-known chapters of WWII, DOG TAG asks the big questions while keeping its focus on the ordinary people who paid the ultimate price. No myth-making. No glamor. Just the weight of history and the cost of living through it.

Russell describes the project as the WWII story he’s always wanted to tell part tribute to a grandfather he never met, part warning about what happens when cruelty and belligerence are allowed to run a nation, and part reckoning with the truth of war that people may not want to hear.
Artist PJ Holden brings it home, reflecting on how many of us grew up seeing war as heroic adventure, when in reality it’s often endured by exhausted, terrified kids barely old enough to be called men. This book is about that sacrifice the kind that doesn’t always get a statue.
If you connect with stories like Slaughterhouse-Five, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Other Side, or Catch-22, or if Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Masters of the Air, and Saving Private Ryan hit you right in the chest DOG TAG is for you. It’s grounded. It’s emotional. And it puts humanity before heroics.
DOG TAG #1 hits comic shops May 6, 2026, with Final Order Cutoff on April 13. Lock in your preorder at your favorite local comic shop or directly through Mad Cave Studios.

This isn’t about winning the war.
It’s about surviving it. WEPA.
