Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers Unleashes a Monstrous New Forgotten Realms Adventure

The world of Dungeons & Dragons is about to get flipped on its head and this time, the monsters are the heroes. Dark Horse Books, alongside Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast, is unleashing DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Total Party Killers, a wild new four-issue comic series that takes some of the most infamous creatures in the Forgotten Realms and throws them together as their own chaotic adventuring party. Yeah… you read that right. The monsters are rolling the dice now.

The series comes from a powerhouse creative squad led by writer Christopher Hastings (The Adventures of Dr. McNinja, The Unbelievable Gwenpool), with explosive artwork by Denis Medri (Red Hood/Arsenal, Spider-Verse). Colors are handled by Dan Jackson (Stranger Things, Star Wars), with lettering by Lucas Gattoni (Harley Quinn, Absolute Green Lantern). And for collectors? Issue #1 is stacked with killer covers by Elizabeth Beals, Matías Bergara (1:20 incentive variant), Michael Walsh, Lukas Ketner, plus a blank character sheet cover ready for your own creative chaos.

Here’s where things get gloriously weird. The powerful wizard Custos is dead, leaving behind a treasure-filled lair that every greedy adventurer wants to plunder. But the monsters he magically enslaved in life are still bound to defend the dungeon even after his death. That is unless they can figure out a way to break free. So what happens when survival means cooperation? A lycanthrope, gelatinous cube, mind flayer, death knight, and even a baby beholder band together to form the most bizarre adventuring party the Forgotten Realms has ever seen. Their mission? Outsmart the invading heroes, escape their magical bondage, and carve out their own place in a world that usually wants them dead. Basically… imagine the dungeon monsters deciding they’re done being XP for heroes.

The madness begins July 22, 2026, when DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Total Party Killers #1 (of 4) hits comic shops for $4.99. Preorders are open now through your local comic shop, and if you’re a fan of chaotic fantasy, monster mayhem, and clever twists on classic tabletop lore, this one is absolutely worth rolling initiative for.

Grab your party, protect your loot, and remember sometimes the real heroes are the monsters.
