First Look at G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions: Baroness #1 by Joëlle Jones & Declan Shalvey
Skybound and Image Comics, teaming up with the powerhouse toy and entertainment giant Hasbro, just dropped a first look at interior pages from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions: Baroness #1, an all-new one-shot arriving as part of Skybound’s highly anticipated Silent Missions Month. And trust me, Crusaders… this one is looking slick. The issue comes from the powerhouse creative duo of writer/artist Joëlle Jones (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) alongside writer Declan Shalvey (Mystique), delivering a high-stakes, wordless thriller that hits comic shops on April 1. Now if you’re a longtime Joe fan, you already know the legend. Back in the day, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #21 shook the comic world with the iconic “Silent Interlude”—a full issue packed with action and storytelling without a single line of dialogue. Pure visual storytelling. Pure comic book magic.
Fast forward to today and Silent Missions Month is back for its second year, but this time there’s a twist. Instead of focusing on the Joes, the spotlight shifts to Cobra’s deadliest operatives, delivering silent, tension-packed stories from an all-star lineup of creators. And leading the charge? None other than the Baroness herself. In this standalone espionage thriller, the Baroness must stop Cobra intelligence from falling into the wrong hands… but things get complicated when both G.I. Joe and Destro enter the equation. Let’s just say the mission is anything but simple.
Collectors are also getting some seriously slick covers. The main cover is crafted by Joëlle Jones, with additional variants including an open-to-order cover by Jorge Fornés (Rorschach), a 1:10 black-and-white incentive version of Jones’ cover, and the launch of a 1:25 foil letter variant series by Fornés that will eventually spell out COBRA across the set. Now here’s the bigger play. Baroness #1 kicks off a five-week event, with a brand-new Silent Missions one-shot arriving every Wednesday in April. And the talent lineup is stacked with heavy hitters including Gabriel Hardman, Joëlle Jones, Declan Shalvey, Pat Olliffe, Tom DeFalco, Howard Porter, and Jorge Fornés.
For longtime fans, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero remains a cornerstone of the ongoing collaboration between Skybound and Hasbro, which continues expanding through the shared Energon Universe. That universe includes powerhouse titles like Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman and Andrei Bressan, the two-time Eisner Award-winning Transformers by Robert Kirkman and Jason Howard, and the ongoing G.I. Joe series from Joshua Williamson and Andrea Milana.
And if you’re a collector, keep your radar on because Skybound is gearing up for a second G.I. Joe Compendium Set Kickstarter in 2026. Fans can jump on the mailing list now at GIJoeKickstarter.com to stay locked in before the campaign launches March 24 at 6 a.m. PT.
Bottom line, Crusaders:
Silent storytelling. Cobra intrigue. A killer creative team. And the Baroness pulling the strings.
April is about to get dangerously quiet… and we are absolutely here for it.
