First Look: Battle Beast Has Entered the Blood Games in Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2 by Robert Kirkman & Ryan Ottley

Skybound and Image Comics revealed interior pages and the lineup of variant covers for Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2, the next chapter of the bestselling new comic book series of the year. From co-creator/writer Robert Kirkman (Void Rivals, The Walking Dead) and co-creator/artist Ryan Ottley (The Amazing Spider-Man), the longtime Invincible creative team, the next issue of the blood-soaked new series will be available at comic shops on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Perfect for longtime fans and new readers alike, the new ongoing series reveals the secret story of crowd favorite Battle Beast in what is the most demanded Invincible story of all time!

In issue #2, Battle Beast has entered the Blood Games. This is bad news…but not for him.

In addition to the main cover by Ryan Ottley and series colorist Annalisa Leoni (Oblivion Song), the variant covers for Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #2 include an open to order cover by Doug Mahnke & Annalisa Leoni, the continuation of the 1:10 incentive connecting cover series by E.J. Su, a 1:25 incentive variant by Mahmud Asrar & Matthew Wilson, a 1:50 incentive variant by Emi Lenox, and a 1:100 incentive variant by Lee Bermejo.

Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1 had initial orders of nearly 400,000 copies worldwide and sold out at the distributor level one week before its debut. The historic first issue of the series will return with three all new covers on June 11, each by a different superstar artist – Ryan Ottley, Jason Howard, and Ryan Sook!

Created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, Invincible #1 debuted to critical acclaim on January 22, 2003. Ryan Ottley joined soon after on issue #8 in late 2003 as the new series artist and contributing creator. Throughout its fifteen-year run at Image Comics, Invincible not only continued for a historic 146 issues, but also spawned multiple spin-off series and even an inter-company crossover with a certain friendly neighborhood superhero. In 2021, Invincible arrived as a television series and took on a new life with fans globally, streaming exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The critically acclaimed adult animated series co-produced by Skybound Animation and Amazon MGM Studios recently wrapped its third season, each of which has been “Certified Fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes, with the second and third seasons earning perfect 100% ratings. The show was also awarded Rotten Tomatoes’ Golden Tomato Award for Best Animated Series in 2023. With a fourth season on the way and constant new activity for the property across entertainment, Invincible remains a cornerstone of the pop culture landscape that continues to grow in popularity every year.
