GUNGNIR, a new publishing house dedicated to visionary and subversive storytelling, is making its mark with an all-star editorial team and an electrifying lineup of graphic novels and prose. Led by a group of storytelling titans, GUNGNIR is set to redefine genres, challenge industry norms, and captivate audiences with a slate of groundbreaking content.
At the helm of GUNGNIR is Publisher & Founder Matthew Medney, a best-selling author and former CEO of Heavy Metal Magazine and current co founder and Chief Creative Officer of Iconic Arts. Medney has spearheaded projects with Grammy-winning musicians, sports icons, and major entertainment brands, cementing his reputation as a pioneer in the world of sci-fi and fantasy storytelling.
Joining Medney is Jim Krueger, GUNGNIR’s Editor-in-Chief. An Eisner Award-winning writer and one of the top ten comic book writers (as named by Wizard magazine), Krueger is renowned for his work on Justice (DC Comics) and the Earth X trilogy (Marvel). His depth of storytelling expertise is a pillar of GUNGNIR’s creative mission.
Also shaping GUNGNIR’s editorial vision is Executive Editor Steve Orlando, whose work spans DC Comics, Marvel, Image, and IDW. With titles such as Midnighter, Martian Manhunter, and Scarlet Witch under his belt, Orlando has earned nominations for Eisner, Ringo, and GLAAD Media Awards, cementing his status as one of the industry’s most innovative voices. He recently worked with world-renowned chef and founder of World Central Kitchen, José Andrés, to create the graphic novel Feeding Dangerously: On the Ground with José Andrés and World Central Kitchen. - Mutant Cats (Available Now) – A bizarre interdimensional accident turns a team of feline scientists into unlikely heroes in this animated sci-fi dark comedy. - The High Cost of Happily Ever After (Early 2026) – A graphic novel by Jim Krueger with art by Zach Brunner that reimagines the fairy tale heroine’s journey. Once a humble maid, Constance unexpectedly becomes a princess, but her newfound life is soon shattered by war. When her husband, the Captain of the Guard, stops writing from battle and the castle falls, she is left to fend for herself. - Untitled James Patrick Project (Coming Soon) – With a talent for crafting immersive worlds and compelling characters, James Patrick is a dynamic storyteller known for his innovative and genre-bending narratives. His work spans comics and graphic novels, often blending sci-fi, fantasy, and dark humor, including The Kaiju Score, a thrilling heist story set in a world of giant monsters, which has been optioned for a film adaptation.
