Kirkman & Cory Walker Reunite for New Invincible Universe Story

Big moves in the Invincible Universe start right here and this one is a game-changer. 💥🌍

Skybound and Image Comics have officially announced that Capes #7 will introduce Ella Mental, a brand-new character making her first-ever comic book appearance. And trust this isn’t a quiet debut. Ella Mental commands earth, wind, fire, and water, and she’s stepping onto the scene just in time to make noise across multiple platforms. Fans will first meet her in the upcoming Invincible VS video game, launching April 30 from Skybound and its in-house studio Quarter Up, before her origin story hits the page.

And yes… this is a full-on reunion. Invincible co-creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker are back together, crafting Ella Mental’s story through a series of brand-new back-up tales running across Capes #7 through #12. New character. New energy. Same legendary creative chemistry.

As previously revealed, Capes #7 also kicks off an all-new main storyline from writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Blood & Thunder) with returning artist Mark Englert (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). With the remastered arc in the rearview, the series now pushes forward into uncharted territory, expanding the Invincible Universe in bold ways when the issue lands in comic shops on May 27, 2026.

Kirkman couldn’t hide the excitement, sharing that continuing stories in the Invincible Universe is great but growing it at the same time is even better. Reuniting with Cory Walker to create Ella Mental? That’s the kind of creative spark that keeps this universe evolving. Fans will get to experience her first in the game, then dive into her origin in Capes, making this a rare cross-media moment done right.

Walker echoed the hype, calling it a thrill to bring a completely original character to life alongside Kirkman because when those two cook, the universe expands. And don’t sleep on the main story either. With Invincible off-planet fighting the Viltrumite War and the new Guardians of the Globe tied up battling The Order, the spotlight shifts to Capes, Inc. This is their moment to step up as the face of superpowered crime-fighting… unless Bolt has already made a catastrophic mistake that could bring it all crashing down. Stakes? Sky-high.

And the timing couldn’t be hotter. March 2026 is Invincible Month, with Skybound celebrating in style Battle Beast returns, highly demanded reprints drop, new collections hit shelves, and a wave of Invincible team-up variants roll out across Image Comics. All of it lines up perfectly with Season 4 of the hit animated series, premiering on Prime Video March 18.
