Lenovations Press Launches First Historical Fiction Comic with Uneven Ground #1
Lenovations Press, the independent comic publisher best known for its imaginative series Section 12 and the NCS award nominated Avenger (New Blood), has released its first historical fiction comic, Uneven Ground #1: Echoes from the High Ground.
Unlike Lenovations’ other titles which often blend fact with science fiction or the supernatural, Uneven Ground is rooted firmly in real events. This debut issue tells the story of Colonel Draža Mihailović and the Chetnik resistance in Yugoslavia during World War II, a chapter of history rarely explored in modern media. Inspired by a 1942 wartime comic and informed by extensive research, writer Len Mihalovich balances historical fact with compelling drama to bring readers into the heart of a forgotten fight for freedom.
“This is not a superhero book,” Mihalovich explains. “It is about ordinary people in extraordinary moments, when the right choice is also the hardest one to make.”

In addition to the main story, the issue features a reprint of the original Real Heroes #6 comic by Parents’ Magazine Press from 1942, offering readers a unique window into how the events were first depicted during the war. This inclusion highlights the contrast between how the story is told today and how the war was presented to children at the time.
The Uneven Ground series will continue exploring moments in history where the ground, both literal and moral, shifts beneath people’s feet. Upcoming stories will include:
- Christmas in the Jungle – A Vietnam War tale of survival and ingenuity during a USO tour gone wrong.
- The Blizzard Bus – A gripping survival story set during the Blizzard of 1978, where a bus driver’s quiet heroism keeps stranded passengers alive for two days.
Uneven Ground #1 is available now through Lenovations Press’ website, select online comic shops, and digital platforms.
