MISFIT ISLAND, an all-ages graphic novel from MONSTER ELEMENTARY creator, Nicholas Doan!

The award-winning team of Nicholas Doan and Bobby Timony are back with a new all-ages comic! And they have added the storytelling prowess of Sara Silver to their superstar team!

After the successful release of two of Monster Elementary graphic novelsboth of which won medals at the Independent Publisher Book Awards, and the mature readers hit, The Kid and The Ripper, Writer and Creator Nicholas Doan is back with a brand new, original graphic novel!

Frequent collaborator and DC’s League of Superpets: The Great Mxy-up artist Bobby Timony has joined Doan as artist and Co-Creator along with comics newcomer, Sara Silver as Co-writer and Co-Creator.

“Sara comes from a background in film that lends a unique and distinctive approach to visual storytelling that has made Bobby and I start look at things a bit differently. Her input has definitely caused us to up our games.” Says Doan.

When Timony designed a new logo for Broken Oar Comics, Silver took one long look and saw endless story possibilities. “I fell in love with Brody and his mischievous look, then combined that with inspiration from Nick’s childhood stories at the beaches of Northern California.”

Misfit island is a true melting pot of Doan, Timony and Silver’s creativity. “The three of us are very creatively aligned and that’s why I think this might be the most magical project I’ve ever been involved with.” Stated Doan.

When asked what drew him to the project, Bobby Timony responded emphatically, “We work so well together! Nick and Sara’s passion for the story really got my imagination going! Their enthusiasm make it hard NOT to want to be a part of this!”

With the creative team in place, there was only one thing missing. “Felipe Araujo did such an amazing job with the colors on The Kid and The Ripper, that I couldn’t think of anyone else to bring vibrance to these special characters. He’s someone that I will work with over and over again. His stunning colors are only matched by his professionalism and speed!” – Nicholas Doan.

Misfit island is a new all-ages graphic novel created by Nicholas Doan, Bobby Timony and Sara Silver and colored by Felipe Araujo with letters by Kevin Lintz. It features three different stories with different sets of characters that all exist in the same world and all share a connection to a secret island called Dissidentia.

In The Misadventures of Brody, a group of mischievous young cryptids investigate the mysteries on their home island of Dissidentia. Brody(Jackalope) and his friends, Dude (Sea Sprite) Spencer and Steffen (Sasquatches) get into all kinds of trouble when they uncover a secret house that has been preserved underground on Dissidentia.

In Henry and Phoebe, a new boy named Henry shows up at school. He’s big, strong, gray, he’s the biological child of the Frankenstein monster and all he wants to do is fit in and play guitar. But mostly, play guitar. He is quickly befriended by an energetic, excitable and diminutive girl named phoebe, that could use a little help with the bullies. And boy does she get that help!

Grounded stars Isla. She is a harpy from the island of Dissidentia. When her curiosity brings her to the mainland, she finds herself injured and trapped there. With the help of a boy named Zeph, she hides out in the city and learns to blend in while she heals and avoids a mysterious Hunter that seeks to capture her.

Misfit Island blends the sensibility of 80’s family adventure movies with the influences of classic monster movies, Greek myths and mysterious creatures. Fans of monsters and mischief will love this all-ages series that deals with themes of self, identity and belonging!

Nicholas Doan has run three highly successful Kickstarter campaigns and Bobby Timony has run one of his own. Combined, they have raised over $60,000 on Kickstarter.

“Kickstarter was a wild and emotional ride the first time and round two proved to be just as challenging and rewarding,” said Doan. “To know that there are so many other people out there that want to see more stories is overwhelming. This process of working directly with the public to bring my creative dreams to life makes this a rewarding experience every time. Every single backer has earned my respect and gratitude.”

Misfit Island will launch April 29, 2025 on Kickstarter with lots of great rewards! Pre-save now at www.misfitislandcomic.com
