REVIEW: 2000 A.D. : The Out Book II: 13

Out of the entirety of the latest 2000 A.D. anthology I decided to take my time and read “The Out”, the most attractive sight as I skimmed the pages being some painting of a pregnant woman vomiting up some blue liquid.

Reading Abnett’s script, the liquid was either literally or metaphorically diamonds, as the first person narrative pressed on with a woman describing a harrowing situation feeling trapped in her own body, then somehow becoming physically trapped within the body of what appeared to be alien mechs … This is Book 2, Part 13, obviously Abnett and Harrison are far along in a highly detailed story, but I dont believe if I had been here from book one that this would be easier to follow.

“The Out” appears to be a comic designed to challenge readers, keep them guessing, and ultimately provide the satisfaction of a hallucinogenic trip in the span of a few pages instead of eight hours. Abnett may be a familiar name in the industry , but Harrison’s art is eye-catching and will fully capture the attention of any casual reader like myself, who may have heard of the legend of 2000 A.D., but never really bought into it.

This anthology is a staple in comics, but for years has had yet to come out with a title to fully sell me on giving them a read. Hell I even saw Dredd in theaters and still have yet to pick up a book, now thanks to Abnett and Harrison, I might go back and read the Dredd short at the start of this collection. Whether or not I follow up on that, there is one thing I am certain : when the next issue of 2000 A.D. drops I will be checking on “The Out”, and anyone looking for a read on “The Out”-lier of the comic shelves should be on The Look Out too.
