Review: Avengers #41
In the previous issue of Avengers #40, the Phoenix Force landed on Earth, and has setup a fighting tournament with some of the planet’s heroes to find out who is the worthiest of being its next host.
In the current issue of Avengers #41, the story continues with members of the Avengers, Supreme Squadron, and others fighting in a tournament to see who will wield the Phoenix Force. Why are they trying to integrate the Avengers with the Phoenix Force? Leave the Phoenix alone to the X-Men.
Truth be told readers are not going to want this to be the one you just randomly jump in on and start reading. Readers also might be perturbed by the insinuation that everyone & their mothers are able to wield the Phoenix Force now. I am a little perplexed of this story being structured as a tournament arc. They just show random people brawling for a couple of panels. No strategy, no emotion, no reason why player 1 should win against player 2. Nighthawk: I have the plot background of Batman! Black Panther: I have bigger plot background than Batman!!!! Nighthawk: Fight? Black Panther: Fight!!!! If Phoenix wanted T’Challa this whole time, then what is even the point of this tournament?
The art was done by Javier Garron coloring by David Curiel. So, we can all agree that the only purpose of this story is to give fans a bunch of costume designs for the Phoenix version of characters? Because that is the only engaging thing in this story for me so far.
Avengers #41 will have 4 covers: Cover A, Leinil Francis Yu; Cover B, Dustin Weaver Connecting Var; Cover C, 1:10 retailer incentive Javi Garron; Cover D Marvel Vs Alien Var by Leinil Francis Yu.
