REVIEW: Beatrix Rose Vigilante TPB

Mark Dawson’s Beatrix Rose Vigilante graphic novel includes all five issues, Ghost, Demons, Solitude, Blood and Revenge. If you are not familiar with this story it follows Beatrix, a hired assassin who once was a British Intelligence officer now works for the Triad in Hong Kong as an assassin for hire.

Beatrix has has lost everything close to her in her life which is a driving factor throughout the story. The balance of trying to make sense of that loss, finding her daughter, and executing criminals on behalf of the Triad that get in the way of their business. The setting is Hong Kong, a large city with tremendous wealth and a very dangerous underground of powerful people that have no issue killing to move their interest forward.

Beatrix in her own right is the perfect killer. Yet she is also a very deep and thoughtful person under the dangerous person she portrays to those around her. She is seemingly unstoppable until she meets the Demon, another assassin killing off the Triad.

The story itself is full of action. If you love the stories of Jason Bourne, Peppermint, and James Bond then you will love this story.

Written by Stephanie Phillips known for her work with DC on titles like Harley Quinn, Batman: Urban Legends, Wonder Woman, this story is straight out of Mark Dawson’s Beatrix Rose six book series. The story is written well allowing for all the action while getting know Beatrix as a person and the motivating factors in the work she has chosen to do for the Triad.

The art is done by Valeria Favoccia who has worked on Inferno Girl Red for Image, Stranger Things for Dark Horse, and Assigns Creed for Titan to name a few.
