Review: Black Widow #11
Story Thus far:
In the last issues leading up to Black Widow #11, Yelena and Natasha were able to neutralize Apogee a villain who had been producing a chemical that makes superpowered people and disseminating it to his followers. Natasha must leave behind her family, but still hasn’t forgotten them.
In the current issue, Natasha, and Yelena have setup an investigation company along with Lucy Anya Corazon. Natasha follows up on some leads to make sure they didn’t miss anything. Which leads them to the Socialite twins, Lars, and Liv.
Art:
It has a flurry of action-packed panels, that aren’t just relegated to actual fighting. A quarter of the panels are Cover Art worthy. I am sorely disappointed that the circus theme was not fully utilized. It feels like a missed opportunity.
Script:
I love the dynamic in-between Natasha and Yelena. Cooperation will be key for both. I like the fact that Kelly Thompson has taken the time to address the trust issues. Most importantly, I love her insistence on not leaving any hanging chads, with the hope that the loop will be closed later.
After 11 issues, I am now convinced the Kelly Thompson needs to oversee a bigger event. Her capability to integrate new details about a character has been impressive. That’s why I am excited she will get the chance to write an Amazing Spider-Man issue in October.
SCORE: 3/5
Speculation:
Any speculation derived from this issue lies in the mention of any of the characters. Anya Corazon’s MCU appearance is bound to happen at some point, Amazing Fantasy (Vol. 2) #1). Yelena Belova officially made her first appearance Inhumans (Vol. 2) #5; however, the character mentioned in this 1st emerged in Tales of Suspense Vol. 1 103. The Twins, also Known as the Hub (First appearance) is made of Liv (First appearance) and Lars (First appearance). Marygold (Lucy Nguyen) (Real name first revealed)Black Widow Vol 8 6.
