REVIEW: Bunny Mask No.4

Gone so soon? I am positive other readers such as myself did not know “Bunny Mask” was a mini-series. No matter this “Bunny Mask” No.4 is worth every second, even if you’ve never read one issue prior.

The level of violence is short of gore, but the brutality is more than present. There’s a steamy sex scene with plenty of groping exposed flesh for the vouyer in us all and a solid relationship built around the main protagonist and the sheriff he is to an extent telepathically linked to. There’s a buddy cop element that is touched on here, but the interaction is subtle. It’s easy to see that these two don’t want to be together. Complete victims of circumstance. The odd-couple make due though, and it can only lead one to wonder the future of their relationship, but a more pressing concern is the romantic relations behind the main protagonist and the estranged love interest that he somewhat left behind for not only the woman in the Bunny Mask but for the adventure that spills out from his relations with her.

The cop’s relationship with alcohol is almost just as interesting. Tobin sure knows how to personalize inanimate objects. I want to know if that cop will ever put down the bottle. That would make an excellent issue, or a spin-off for that matter. The personal relationships in “Bunny Mask” are just as engaging as the action sequences, an accomplishment in the right of Tobin’s team. And if that cop never made love to that apparition in the Bunny Mask, the how in the world does he share a psychic-link with the man who did? A mystery unsolved at the moment, while many other mysteries for this arc are solved, but with that comes other curios just waiting to be unearthed in the Tobin’s universe with the cliffhanger ending his team shells out

The humor is dark as ever and Mutti’s colors makes the panels look almost like ripples in a body of water. I can only wonder what corner Tobin will put his main character in with the next arc of his tale and just how the woman with the Bunny Mask will tie-in. Bunny Mask is pulp mixed with the supernatural, a puzzle waiting for it’s next pieces Tobin & Mutti left in the box, and Aftershock would only be silly to not invest in seeing Tobin’s jigsaw to completion.
