Review: Chariot #1

Story Thus Far:

I fell in love with the potential or the story in the first 10 pages. Chock full of car chases, helicopter attacks, spy cars, and kick ass Feme Fatales. Later we get introduced to a familiar story of a father trying to pay the bills of a terminally ill sick child, on a strip mechanics salary. Jim is divorced, has a criminal history, rising medical bill, and rising debt to sharks. He is hoping he can pull of one last job to pay off the debts and make some money to pay of the debts.

Dialogue:

Normal. It did what it had to do, in introducing the relationships between the characters. The only thing is that it does not really dip into any gearhead slang that would be appeasing to the Fast and Furious Crowd.

Art:

The art was done by Priscilla Petraites (Rat Queens), and the coloring by Marco Lesko (Doctor Who). First let us start with the characters design; First, The car is nothing spectacular, but just remember that Jim is a mechanic who specializes in Flushing Cars. So, it will be interesting in the later issues to see his efforts to soup up the car. Moreover, I see a lot of potential regarding the consciousness of the car. I imagine future cosplayers and female car enthusiast take a shot at this. The 1^st ten pages of panel-to-panel action was great. I am not so keen on the design of the main character Jim, nor his family.

I have high hopes for this title because it does have an interesting concept. All we need now is the” how this character became this character”. If Bryan Hill, can really commit to developing an entire narrative arc around their origin, then Chariot can really be something entertaining and successful. There are already indications that she is a “La Femme Nikita”, type. I just hope she does not; Later become nothing more than a cardboard character. Knight Rider, wrapped in the world of Ocean’s Eleven, driven by a protagonist whose world feels more like Denzel’s Washington’s Out of Time.

Note to Comic Speculators:

In conclusion, This is a must pick-up. Just a reminder that Sister and AWA have a collaboration agreement which means that each party can feed the other with projects or ideas that it might be able to exploit for movies, shows, games, or other forms of media. Behind the Tians of Elizabeth Murdoch and Stacy Snider I honestly believe that the Chariot concept would be perfect for adaptation.
