Review: Clobberin' Time #3 - COMIC CRUSADERS

So far in Clobbering Time, we’ve witnessed The Thing smashing hordes of aliens with the Hulk & Wolverine (he even managed to sink a few with Wolverine in between battles). As you can imagine, this involved lots of fist-fighting and spontaneous decision-making. Luckily, just as the testosterone threatened to get too high, issue #3 introduced the much more level-headed hero, Dr Strange, to assist Ben Grimm in the ongoing threat from the mysterious time travelling Psycho-pomp.

Issue#3 begins with The Thing taking his beloved aunt and uncle for dinner, an excellent example of the big pile of rocks more gentle side. However, with a terrorist-like time hoping bad guys on the loose, chaos soon ensues in the form of unwanted visit from the Master of the Mystic arts. Once Dr Strange is around, a journey into a magical dimension is often a likely occurrence, and true to form, he and The Thing are transported into a strange realm where they’re faced with the most significant threat the series has seen so far.

Benn Grimm is one of the most distinctive characters in Marvel Comics, and Skroce easily nails his famous sarcastic charm. As with the previous two issues, there’s a lively dynamic between the lead characters and Skorce weaves together a classic adventure story while reminding us why The Thing is such a beloved character.

The Art has an addictive cartoony look, making every page sing with vibrant, razor-sharp details in all the right places. This is all lifted even further by the bold and beautiful colors from Bryan Valenza.

Clobbering Time has that wholesome Saturday morning cartoon feel that will more than satisfy the need for some easy reading or a good adventure story.
