Review: Crossover #7
I have said it before, and I will say it again; Crossover, is written too well. Donny Coates promised readers the greatest crossover event of all-time. So naturally readers have been expecting superficial Super-hero fights and lots of dad jokes from some of the biggest names you can think of. All spread across the pages of this one book…what happened?
Story Recap:
After the incident in which the 2 worlds of 3D Real people and 2D Comic book people collides. A killer has been hunting down the comic book heroes. This time Chip Zdarsky suspects that he the next target. So the award winning writer moves to another country, changes, his name, and begins to learn another occupation in a bid to stay alive. So Crossover #7 will that be enough, and leave clues to answer the question “who is this mysterious serial killer”.
Art:
The artistic team consist of Phil Hester for pencils and Andre Parks, Inks and Dee Cuniffe on colorist. Mike Spencer. There are some interesting art choices, all in all the setting and background it reminded me of Jeff Lemire’s style. The panels were sufficiently darkened in order to capture the mood of the background and the main character.
Script:
Make no mistake it’s a well written issue. Some good Meta stuff in there. Just this one issue alone could stand up as a movie script. It just falls under the pressure of reader expectations. One the other hand, it has problems. If you are a reader that was expecting a Rock’em Sock’em action book, with pretty pictures and no sustenance, go read that Hero’s Reborn S*$%.
Speculation Outlook:
A forgotten soldier of the Wednesday Warriors, Crossover has had any love from speculators in a while. Crossover has all the trappings of a great summer read, but I have no clue where this might fall in the TV or movie spectrum. I’m not alone which is why you can find a bunch of the High ratio in the back of your LCS. Until we get more this will have to be a Dollar-bin Darling.
