REVIEW: GHOSTLORE #1 (OF 12)

Every family has their issues. Ghostlore begins with a very normal family, the father who’s a reverend who sees his congregation slowly shrinking and his supportive wife who comforts him. They have two children, Harmony a teenager with an attitude, and her younger brother Chris, a boy that seems to be going through something that have his parents worried.

The story starts off at church as the father gives his sermon to an almost empty congregation. This is creating questions that the reverend has no answers for. There is a frustration as he desires to see the best for his community and worries for those who are no longer attending regular services.

Initially the children seem to be disengaged but we soon find out there are other elements playing a larger role in this town.

Written by Cullen Bunn, this is another interesting mystery-horror story that ends leaving you with many questions. Although this story follows a normal family going through normal family issues, there is an abnormal situation that not all in the family knows is taking place, except for one. And what this person has seen should have been shared much earlier.

Cullen has another great story to add to his list of horror books he has released over the past few years. A 2012 Eisner Award winner for best writer for The Sixth Gun and 2 time Ghastly Award winner for best writer and best ongoing title for Harrow County, Cullen continues to provide an array of titles to pick from.

The artwork by Leomacs and colors by Jason Wordie do a great job of capturing the right tone at the right time providing a good backdrop that helped this story come to life. If you are looking for a horror title with a twist of mystery, Ghostlore is the book for you.
