Review: GHOSTLORE #2 (OF 12)

In Ghostlore#1 Pastor Lucas and his daughter Harmony had their lives turned upside down after an earth-shattering car wreck that killed the Pastor’s wife and Son. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the Pastor and his daughter are left with a supernatural ability to communicate with Ghosts. Worst still for Harmony, she was the one behind the wheel on the fateful ride that took the lives of her mother and brother.

As you can see, Ghostlore is a story that pulls no punches. Issue#2 opens with the lead characters at home soon after the accident, but before long, the Pastor is set upon by a needy spirit and the supernatural stakes are well and truly raised! Once Lucas finds out that the spirits are looking for someone to hear their story and help them ‘Pass over to the other side’, he uses his priestly powers to help free the Ghosts from being stuck in the world of the living. However, these spirits aren’t your typical bedsheet-wearing ghouls. These ghosts have balls, tentacles, and a whole lot of attitude! And while Lucas is knee-high in Ghost drama, Harmony is pretty much just focused on surviving, plague by guilt and unaware that she’s being watched. The story moves along nicely as the main character’s situation becomes more desperate and the strange and menacing supernatural world around them slowly closes in.

At this point, Cullen Bunn is beyond establishing himself as one of the best horror comic book writers working today, and Ghostlore#2 shows just how top-level he is. The sense of dread and building tension has been present in Ghostlore right from the get-go, and Bunn’s invented a fun supernatural world, with his always fresh and believable dialogue drawing you into the Ghostly goodness even further.

Leomacs art perfectly complements the gritty character-lead tale. His beautifully detailed style of intricate pen strokes displays magically intense emotions on each charters face and adds fantastic depth to the spellbinding supernatural action.

Ghost and Horror Stories fans will delight in Ghostlore, but everyone can enjoy something here. Ghostlore is a twisted, dark and highly addictive tale that quickly grabs at your throat and refuses to let go.
