Review: Guardians of the Galaxy #10

Anyone who read the original Star-Lord comic knows Peter Quill merely reverted to his classic self, with some new tricks but unlike in the original series where he was a human empowered by the master of the Sun, he is now the Master of the Sun. One who is now apparently strong enough to throw hands with Greek Gods and Knull.

Without readers realizing it trying Avengers: No Road Home continues to be one of the most important Marvel storylines, next to Power of X/Sword of X. On the surface, Olympus was destroyed by Nyx setting it and the Gods within on the path to a renewal. Some new character designs were introduced, with striking resemblances to the Eternals. There has been speculation that the upcoming Eternals movie, will incorporate elements of the traditional Greek gods of the Marvel Universe with the race created as god parallels by Jack Kirby.

But fewer reader will at this point remember that Avengers: No Road Home set in motion the events in which his classic origin became canon again but with a few twists. Originally Quill, (Marvel Preview #4, 1976) was born on February 4, 1962, during an event in which the Sun, the Moon, and all the planets from Mercury to Saturn were clustered all visible. As a result it has been suggested that this maybe why he was a human, chosen by the Master of the Sun to be the Star-Lord. Given superhuman strength, durability, flight in space unaided, and his elemental gun was only limited by his imagination

I am loving the integration of Vedic Astrology into Peter’s Mythos. The 12 houses can be attributed to his creator, Steve Englehart, who wanted him to have an adventure that represented each house of the 12 Zodiac signs. Peter was supposed have an adventure on 12 different planets. After each adventure Peter would learn a lesson and only after going through the 12 houses will Peter Quill finally become enlightened and learn to be Star-Lord. As it would seem Peter Quill has now somehow accessed the “Silver Eye”, as a result of the events from Guardians of the Galaxy #10.

I kinda wish that we had gotten that adventure but I ‘ll take what we got from Ewing, cause there is a lot of stuff going on right now. All of a sudden he was given all this power and abilities. So, it would have been nice to to have a chance to mourn the Old Quill who worked well as a character who’s imperfections and insecurities are so down to Earth. Some readers may connect easier with someone with no powers that can still explore the cosmos, takes his lumps, and somehow always get back up.
