REVIEW: Justice Ducks #3
The terror that flaps in the night returns with his crime fighting team in Justice Ducks #3. The tables have turned and now Darkwing Duck is the one who needs saving.
A valuable piece of art has gone missing, the perfect job for the Justice Ducks. But it’s also Stegmutt’s birthday and he wants to go to the circus. The two competing agendas converge, setting the table for hijinks and misadventure. When a vanishing trick really does make Gosalyn disappear, the team goes on a circus search-and-rescue mission. Writer Roger Langridge keeps the action light and breezy. The issue carriers the series’ and character’s customary humor. Darkwing and Gizmoduck both have lol-worthy one-liners. It’s such an easy read, the issue flies by in a good way. The twist of how and why the art heist and the circus are related is a fun reveal as well, and leads to the most exciting parts of the issue.
The humor Darkwing and company are known for is matched by its classic art style, perfectly recreated in this issue. The stars look exactly how you know and love them to look. While that is to be expected in this series, a surprising bright spot is the character designs of the circus performers. Varied and unique anamorph characters that look out of the is world, literally. Their designs add some visual spice to the series. The issue is full of bright colors and expressive cartoon action. Artist and colorist Carlo Lauro doesn’t short readers on the visual fun.
Justice Ducks #3 is a fun and funny read. The Justice Duck team is such a loveable group of crime fighting ducks (and a dinosaur) and it such a treat to look at, it’s hard to be in a bad mood while reading this comic. The reporter’s lines at the beginning and end of the issue are worth the price of admission alone. Fans of Darkwing Duck will thoroughly enjoy this issue. It also makes the series easy to jump into, serving as an excellent starting point for someone interested in this comic book run.
