Review: KING IN BLACK THUNDERBOLTS #1 (OF 3)
The last we saw of the Thunderbolts Mayor Fisk and Baron Zemo, moonlighting as Citizen V, came up with a plan to deal with the Punisher. Mayor Fisk introduced a new incarnation of the Thunderbolts during a press conference to the citizens of New York, only for them to be dispensed 5 issues later.
In the current issue of KING IN BLACK THUNDERBOLTS #1, Mayor Fisk has contracted a new team of Thunderbolts to help fight the Symbiote invasion precipitated by the coming of the Knull. Star Ripley Ryan, Rhino, Taskmaster, Ampere, Mr. Fear, Snakehead, and Batroc the Leaper. Though what these characters can do against the symbiotes is unclear, also the mission was not really clarified in the beginning.
The art for King in Black Thunderbolts was amazingly done by Juan Ferreyra. His technique is on point and sets the tone. Watercolors, over grey paper, was nicely done and set an interesting dark tone against the wise cracking jokes of the Thunderbolts, they are fighting those black and red Dragons, regular Symbiotes and so far, supervillains turned symbiote.
The Rosenberg creative team has essentially done what I did not think was possible, in that I care about a Thunderbolts title. I can see the vision of why each character was added and now I want to see what happens.
