REVIEW: Knight Terrors: Ravager #2

Ravager’s familial nightmare continues in Knight Terrors: Ravager #2. Can the daughter of Deathstroke finish off the nightmare version of her father and save both versions of herself?

Previously, Ravager encountered a younger version of herself and both went on the run from Murder Man (the nightmare version of their father Deathstroke). The younger Rose turns heel literally transforming into a monster who needs Ravager’s blood to guide Murder Man into the waking world. This issue picks up immediately after #1, with Ravager on the run from nightmare Rose. The horror is still here and is mixed with exciting action as Ravager and her nightmares face off. Writer Ed Brisson shows off Ravager’s personal side, addressing her daddy issues and also her evolved outlook on herself. All of this is happening as her Stormwatch teammates have found her body in the real world. From there, it becomes a race for her dream-self to complete her mission before she’s awakened. This adds to the sense of urgency and the issue flies by in a good way.

Like the first issue, this one is a visual treat for horror fans. It’s dark in tone and coloring and doesn’t skimp on the blood. The monsters are disturbing, plus there’s a transformation that is particularly horrific. And it has to be restated, the nightmare version of Deathstroke is a terrifying and completely original representation of the character and the art team of Dexter Soy (art) and Veronica Candini (colors) deserve major props. The use/placement of panels is done in a very interesting way that amps up the action on some pages and the terror in others. Overall, the mixture of real horror and cool action embodies everything the Knight Terrors event is all about.

In conclusion, Knight Terrors: Ravager #2 is a satisfying conclusion to Ravager’s arc in the series. She gets to show her softer side while remaining a cool action hero. There are hints as to what’s going on in the real world and it also sets up more for adventures for Ravager…and perhaps the Bat Family. Ravager faces her deepest nightmare head-on, and even though it’s not pretty, it’s very entertaining. For those who like a side of action with their horror, this is an issue well worth checking out.
