REVIEW: Predator vs. Spider-Man #1 (of 4)

Yo, picture this — New York City is already hotter than a two-for-one slice shop at midnight, crime is popping off like fireworks on the Fourth, and Spider-Man? Yeah, our boy’s trying to hold it all together with duct tape, a half-busted camera, and a prayer. Now throw a Predator into the middle of that disaster stew… and baby, we got ourselves a real problem!

Predator vs. Spider-Man #1, written by Benjamin Percy with savage, sweaty art by Marcelo Ferreira, kicks off a crossover that’s darker than a blackout in Brooklyn — and twice as deadly. This ain’t your usual friendly neighborhood hijinks, fam. Nah, this is blood-on-the-sidewalk, skulls-on-the-belt business. Predator ain’t here to play tourist; he’s here to turn Peter Parker into a trophy!

And the setup? Oh, it’s juicy. Peter’s hustlin’ — trying to snag Pulitzer-level photos while also solving murders so gory they make the Halloween parade look like a kid’s birthday party. Meanwhile, some random cop is chasing him down like he stole a hot dog cart, mad about unauthorized crime scene pics. Bruh. Priorities! Oh, and Kraven? Yeah, Kraven the Hunter sniffs the chaos and says, “Bet. Lemme get a piece too.”

New York’s melting. Cops are bugging. Blackouts are frying everything from bodegas to Bugle headlines. Spidey’s out here working overtime, and every time he thinks he’s got a second to breathe — BOOM — the Predator’s right behind him, ready to catch bodies.

Now I’m gonna keep it a buck with you: the first issue moves like a slow-cooked beef stew. You can smell the meat, but the meal ain’t ready yet. Percy’s building tension like a boss, letting the fear drip real slow. So if you came here looking for a full-on Spider-Man vs. Predator slugfest in the first five pages? Nah, chief. This is a set up your chessboard, knock over the table later type of vibe.

Is Peter acting a little weird though? YUP. Peter out here cosplaying as a CSI agent to sneak into crime scenes feels mad off-brand. And him dreaming up a special Daily Bugle print edition during a blackout? That’s J. Jonah Jameson energy if I’ve ever seen it — not Parker’s. Minor gripes, but still, they had your boy scratching his head like, “Yo, Pete, you good??”

But let’s talk about the real MVPs: the visuals. Marcelo Ferreira is COOKING, man. The way he draws the city, the bodies, the Predator moving like a ghost through the smoke — it’s nasty, it’s beautiful, it’s New York in a horror movie level crazy. Jay Leisten’s inks slap you in the face, and Frank D’Armata’s colors got the whole city looking like it’s sweating bullets in a sauna from hell. When the gore finally hits? OOOOF. Michelin-star savagery, no cap.

Predator vs. Spider-Man #1 ain’t here to give you instant gratification. It’s the first shot of tequila before the night turns into a movie you barely remember. It’s laying down bricks for something that’s about to get loud, bloody, and wild. When this thing finally pops off? Man, ain’t nobody gonna be ready. This crossover is about to slap harder than Aunt May’s wooden spoon. Yeah, it’s a slow roll, yeah, Pete’s making some weird moves, but once that Predator starts stacking bodies in Queens? It’s gonna be GAME ON, BABY.
