Review: S.W.O.R.D #10

Story Thus far:

In the previous issue of S.W.O.R.D #9, A fleet of Shiar warships flew to Arakko, formerly known as Mars to escort Shiar senior leadership to delegate with leadership from Krakoa. In the meantime, the new commander of Alpha Flight, Henry Guyrich, has dispatched a tactical team called the lethal legion, to conduct an interdiction of the Shiar-Mutant delegation.

In the current s issue of S.W.O.R.D #10, the skirmish continues, and is revealed to be nothing more than a distraction from Henrey Guyrich’s main plan, to take down SWORD Station . To do it he enlists help from someone on the inside.

Script:

Perfect. A bit of Super- hero fantasy, mixed with some James Bond 007, tradecraft. Even the dialogue was on Point. The Monologue took its time to explain the narrative, while the rest of the dialogue was very precise in explaining the short order effects.

Art:

The art by Jacopo Camagni, and colors by Fernando Sifuentes. The art suffered from a lack of depth perspective. Most of the fighting action took place on Mars , so the art team was already put in a tight spot. They really couldn’t rely on Atmospheric Perspective , so they tried to leverage changes in color and relied too much on Motion Parallaxx. That doesn’t mean they there were some great panels though.

SWORD #10 has 2 different covers: CVR A by Stefano Caselli; CVR B by Inhyuk Lee. So far, the consensus is that the Inhyuk Lee is the one to chase so far.

Speculation:

SWORD #10, stands on its own, due to it being the 2nd appearance of the ‘Lethal Legion’ and 1st appearance of the clones of some villains, Mr. Eloquent, Half Bot, Orbis Extremis, Electric Head, and Death Grip. That probably won’t move the meter for most speculators. it has been disappointing that there has not been any more X-MEN news, but a Sword contingent would perfectly intersect with Captain Marvel.

The appearance of Henry Gyrich, who has shown up multiple times in Al Ewing stories this year should. First appeared in Avengers #165. What’s truly scary is the fact that Al-Ewing has a chance to add some depth to the Wiz Kid. His first appearance was in X-Terminators #1

It was also nice to see the reemergence of Xandra Neramani. Her Cameo and first appearance was in Mr. and Mrs. X #1, and 3.
