Review: Snake Eyes Dead Game #2

SNAKE EYES DEADGAME #2 CVR A LIEFELDSnake Eyes: Deadgame #2 is published by IDW Publishing, written by Rob Liefeld, with dialogue by Chad Bowers, art by Adelso Corona, colors by Federico Blee, and letters by Andworld Design. This is the 2nd issue of a new mini-series.
In the previous issue, Snake Eyes: Deadgame #1, Snake Eyes is sent on yet another mission following an SOS message where the JOES find: General Joseph Colton, the original G.I. Joe. What“s interesting is that Colton brings up something called the “Deadgame”“, in which he has a flashback to a battle, regarding Thor, and an individual called the Gravemaster wielding the “Dead Sword”“.

In the current issue, Snake Eyes: Deadgame #2, Snake Eyes and Scarlett, conduct an awkward team-up to go looking for the Dead Sword”“. It was revealed that the name of the Grave Master is Kirigun, and he has a daughter trained in martial arts. In a twist it seems she is related to Snake Eyes (note: 1st appearance of Olympia. The thing to take away from it all was that the Grave Master, wants to make an attempt at enduring the Deadgame Trial. In order to go all the way, he must battle an opponents that can survive the trial of monsters. That“s where Snake Eyes comes in.

Art for this issue was done by Adelso Corona. Not too heavy, and dark in the tones. The issue is full of panels that are variant cover worthy. Even though I appreciate the fan serviceable designs of some of the characters, I am crusty in my old age, and caught myself commenting, which uniforms were not tactical enough for the battlefield much less the woods.

Over all easy read, and a standalone issue. Magical swords, and long lost relatives aren“t my thing, but the way that information was dropped was interesting making this a must collectible for G.I. Joe Fan.

4 out of 5 stars.
