Review: TMNT JENNIKA II #5 (OF 6)
Story Thus Far:
Jennika, has been smuggling secret messages into mafia territory, from Lucia who is the wife of mafia boss Antonio Rosetti. Jennika does it because Antonio Rosetti was murdered by her, while was still a human and a member of the Foot Clan. After her husband’s death, Lucia (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Jennika II #4) took over his business as well as the upbringing of their son, Antonio Junior but after the events of City at war lost custody hence the need for the sneaking about.
Dialogue:
Consistently Good. Throughout the series the inter-dialogue of Jennika and the other animals makes her come off as a sulking teenager; however, when she is in tactical mode she seems to be more in her element. Moreover, her continuing reflection for her past sins feels right.
Art:
The art was done by Jodie Nishijima. First let us start with the covers that she has been pumping out, which have been spectacular. I do not even know why they bother with retailer exclusives. The panel-to-panel action has been okay and but the strength has been focused more on the tactical tradecraft than just kicks and punches.
For those wondering what is going to be the direction of Jennika, this is it. This where her character development continues. Because for each great character there has to a great bad guy. This is going to be the storyline that fleshes it out.
Note to Comic Speculators:
We all know it is only a time before Jennika makes its animation of Live Action. So, picking up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #95 (2019) is the play. Not only do you want to pick up issue #1, but this one has a lot of 1st appearances as well. A factor in how fast this gets picked up could hinge on the upcoming series Jupiter Legacy.
SCORE: 3/5
TMNT JENNIKA II #5 (OF 6) will have 2 covers: Cover A Jodie Nishijima; Cover Adam Gorham 1:10 Retailer incentive.
