Cyberpunk is dark by nature but the world of WOrldtr33 takes those themes to some of its darkest depths. And in issue #3 of the series, the internet is still trying to kill us all, literally.
There is a lot going on here and it’s all broken don into short stores from different main player’s perspectives. From Gabriel, Ellison, Silk, and PH34R have unique and different perspectives on what’s going on and all are very well written by Tynion IV. For as out there as this scenario is, the writing is grounded and as realistic as can be under the circumstances. Ellison is legitimately confused and scared and Gabriel is the perfect mix of over-the-top but cool, calm, and collected.
The art is a mix of golden age and modern comic art style. Most pages contain as many panels as possible which is a throwback. And the characters have an old school look to their basic designs but with all the modern extras and a lot more detail. PH34R in particular looks cool yet terrifying (no easy feat when you’re a tall naked blonde robot lady). And the muted coloring gives it all a noir touch. It’s truly the best of both worlds artistically.
More than likely, social media, and the net as a whole, will be the demise of us all. WOrldtr33 has a unique take on how exactly that will play out. But there is hope, Gabriel is a man with a plan and the government is on the case as well. However, there is definitely more trouble on the horizon for everyone attempting to fight the power.
