Publisher: Valiant Entertainment
Release Date: December 3, 2014
This Wednesday, Valiant“s premiere superhero team returns in Valiant-Sized Quantum & Woody #1. In this 40 page one-shot special, the brothers have been recruited by the government to join a new team.  A huge asteroid is headed toward earth, and the team must use their collective powers to avert a catastrophe.
Right away, Quantum & Woody are introduced to their new team comprised of a “collection”“ of the world“s greatest science minds and North Korea“s very own superhero. None of the members of Quantum & Woody“s new team care much for them or Americans in general. This leads to some extremely funny (and potentially offensive) dialogue amongst the group. After being briefed on the plan to stop the asteroid the team goes through a test run which goes horribly wrong. The team moves to plan B, which involves an inter-dimensional portal. However, before the second plan is ready, Woody travels through the portal into another dimension. Quantum and the rest of the team receive a visitor from the other dimension and the rest of the issue follows each visitor“s actions in their foreign dimension.
This is a great example of a comic that doesn’t take itself too serious and isn’t afraid to have a good time. The story moves fast and the dialogue amongst the new team is hilarious. The art delivered in this issue is nothing to write home about, but is solid and effective in moving the story along. However it is the writing here that wins this issue.
Final Verdict: Give this one a try. Whether a new reader or existing Quantum & Woody fan, you“ll have a fun time reading this story.
