ADVANCED REVIEW: Predator Life and Death #1 (of 4)

This is Dodgy86 in the mix bringing you a look at Predator: Life and DeathÂ #1Â byÂ Dan Abnett (W), Brian Thies (A), Sachin Teng (Variant Cover), Chris Warner (30th Variant Cover)

Under a New World claim to terraform and colonize unchartered plants – This story begins with a team of army-corps soldiers assigned to a planet named Tartarus, the mission is to identify lifeforms and claim the land for its planned colonization. The mission laid out by the representative of Weyland-Yutani, the company responsible for the New Word plans, is that this is an easy mission.. In the midst of an unknown jungle wasteland, how wrong they are…

This story begins by giving the reader an insight into the minds of the crew as they prepare to delve into the unknown. These elements are very similiar to the Predator comics in the late eighties and early nineties, which really work, and Abnett does a really good job of replicating. In addition the conversation of the Captain and Mr. Lorimer who represents Weyland-Yutani in assuring the safety of her team.

Abnett also does a really good of distracting us with the dialogue throughout the book – come on you don’t need me to tell you what happens, do you? The arrogance of the crew who set their course to this mysterious planet gives the readers no such sympathy.Â Although I am really pleased with seeing a female captain and she has short hair she is no-nonsense and doesn’t take crap from nobody. Thies’ artwork is perfect in a book like this, the shading in the character faces are brilliant. I am truly impressed with this book.

This is the first issue of a miniseries, for fans of the Predator franchise or in the mood for a shorty storied run – this is for you!
