Australia Day Review: The List
G’Day Crusaders,
This is Dodgy in the mix sharing with you The List: The New Commandments by Paul Bedford (also creator), art by Henry Pop & Tom Bonin, cover by Menton3, letters & layout by Fleur Bedford and edited by Anthony Earl.
Proudly published by Project-Nerd Publishing.
The next time you think your family is weird, spare a thought for Matthew and his family once you delve into this book.
The family is influenced by an angel and their lives are changed forever. In his father’s footsteps Matthew must follow the list of instructions which is tattooed on his torso and once he completes a task, like your average shopping list you cross it off! The method of crossing it off is enough to make your morning’s breakfast appear on your lap.
This book is over 200 pages long, at first I felt overwhelmed due to the sheer size of the book. The panel layout and the art made it easy to read, subconsciously I already flicked through 10 pages. The story along with the pacing are effective, with the number of pages the scenes are not rushed in getting to the point and partnered with the art by Pop and Bonin make it very, very freaky.
This book not suitable for children, it is incredibly violent and dark. One of the scariest comics I’ve read in a while! I did mention the book is easy to follow and in terms of the conclusion, that’s where it ended for me, I did at times feel the author is playing games with my mind (that is a good thing) because I was left to my own interpretation to conclusion of this book. It is a mind bender and would make a great horror flick on the basis it were made right!
I heavily recommend this for fans of horror and something to mess with you a bit! Do ya’self a favor and check it out!
