Colorado Springs Comic Con 2019 Review- "No Paper Towels For Space Ghost"

Before I talk about my adventure at Colorado Springs Comic Con, I first need to talk the title of the review. As I was getting ready to leave Colorado Springs Comic Con this year, I had to make a stop in the restroom. To my surprise, George Lowe happened to be in the bathroom washing his hands. Now for those who don’t know, George Lowe is the voice of Space Ghost during the Space Ghost Coast to Coast years on Cartoon Network. So back to George, poor George had a busy day signing autographs and just wanted his hands dry following the trip to the bathroom. To George’s dismay, the paper towel rack in the restroom had become depleted, so in either defeat or funny sarcasm, George says, “No Paper Towels for Space Ghost.” I just found it hilarious, and had to share it.

The Comic Crusaders team was able to attend this year’s Comic Con in Colorado Springs, and I have to say the event was a lot of fun. I wish we could have attended all three days, but the traffic situation going from Denver to Colorado Springs just did not make that feasible this year. However, Saturday’s event was chalk full of fun, and allowed us to see a fun Comic Con that was easilyy accessible to fans who wanted to attend. One of the things I love about this event is the venue. A Comic Con in the mall. It just makes for a great setup. We arrived on the press side and as you walk in you see the action going down. From our entrancee, we saw a celebrity row and everyone seemed to have some sort of line, which I find to always be a good sign. For me, one of the things I wanted to do the most was meet Kevin Nash. That’s right, that Kevin Nash. besides being a fan of his professional wrestling work, Nash portrayed the mutated ‘Super’ Shredder in TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze. So I was able to get a vintage figure of the character to get signed. I have paid for some cool celebs moments at convention, and with the exception of Frank Miller, Nash was the coolest. He spoke with us for a few minutes and took the time to make small talk. We talked about the area, how much Colorado has grown, and some toy talk. Then we took a picture and wish him well. They often say don’t meet the people you look up to, but in the case, I was blown away with his kindness and time. Kudos to the Colorado Springs Comic Con team for having such a great guest.

From there, we decided to look around and see what the show offered. The event had so many vendors, who had so many great deals on so many great items. We actually bought two mystery boxes at the event that we had alot of fun opening. Now the event was split into two levels. Most of the celebrities were upstairs, but there were a good portion downstairs too. One of the things that makes Colorado Springs Comic Con stand for me is the wide appeal of the guests. From Star Trek, to WWE, to Terminator, to Power Rangers, and everything in between, Colorado Springs Comic Con appeals to a wide fan base. For myself, I think that’s a really great thing.

So although I had only the one day to attend, I found the Con overall exciting. Like I said so many vendors were at event this year. So many food options available as well. From the food trucks outside, to the stuff both inside and around the mall, the location for the event was a ton of fun. The staff was very helpful when needed questions answered, and the security maintained control and you never felt like you were in any danger. One of the other highlights while I was at the event was meeting Kevin Eastman. He had a long line and he took the time to do sketches and sign for people, which I think is a tough balance, but everyone in line was nice and friendly. The people in line can make all the difference, luckily the crowd I was with, was fun and easy going.

Overall, I found Colorado Springs Comic Con a fun event. I wish I could have stood longer, but the time spent there was well worth it for the memories alone. The team behind the event works very hard to put this all together, and my hat is off to them for making it go off with any issues. My only suggestion is that I wish there were more panels at the show to separate the time on the floor. Once again I thank the Altered Reality team for allowing Comic Crusaders to attend.
