Review: Darth Vader #12

Synopsis:

Darth Vader discovers that the kill order against him was sent from the high offices which include Emperor Palpatine. So, the Dark Lord of the Sith finds himself headed to Palpatine’s office to discover who could have made that order. A fight ensues and Vader comes through unscathed to find himself speaking directly to the emperor. The Emperor lectures his pupil on the dangers of seeking power and refuses to help him find the ones who placed that order. He’s on his own.

The Creative Team:

Charles Soule brings us a noir style mystery tale to the Star Wars galaxy as Darth has to discover who is trying to kill him. Great stuff includes his confrontation with the Emperor and his deductive skills in trying to figure out who his attempted killers are. He calls a meeting of the Empire’s chief leaders and deals with them as only a Dark Lord of the Sith can. An intriguing look into the man who was Anakin Skywalker. A good issue as we discover that not all is well on the dark side of the force.

Giuseppe Camuncoli and Danielle Orlandini have a good feel for the Star Wars universe and they bring a certain energy to the proceedings that help this story unfold in vibrant fashion. Highlights include the space battle between Vador and unseen forces. Plus the final pages of the story have no dialogue, letting their best efforts show off in some great panels.

In Conclusion:

This issue is a fine read as it bridges the story in a unique way. We’re shown some of the inner workings of the Empire and the corruption that permeates the Empire’s universe. High ranking officials in undercover mode attempting assassinations of  important leaders. You can tell in this issue that the Empire is based on the Nazi regime. It is so much like project Valkyrie and the attempted assassination of Adolph Hitler that you can almost hear the officers yell Seig Heil and give the Nazi salute! *** (7.2 rating)
