Review: Venomized #5

Synopsis:

This issue opens with the Mighty Scragg and associates beating the crap out of Thanos. But has the mighty Scragg bitten off more than he can chew? This is a story for the ages as our heroes are desperate to defeat The Symbiotes and look in odd places for unusual assistance from strange creatures who are overconfident and take their foe for granted. The X-Men are also desperate, desperately trying to be stealth as they search for a way to take down their adversary. It’s a cat and mouse game with the fate of the universe at stake!

Cullen Bunn is back and doing what he does best. Keeping us guessing every inch of the way. Did Scragg over step his boundaries? Do the X-Men have an ace up their sleeve or are they being foolhardy in their attempt to succeed? Our heroes are delusional and start seeing illusions, thinking they’re talking to loved ones. What could be causing our heroes mind tricks? The stakes are high and the protagonists are not at 100 percent. Great stuff includes Venom and Spider-man back in action together and the return of an old friend that we thought might have been gone for good. Bunn keeps the pace increasing on every page and this one is a true page turner.

Iban Coello keeps his panels tight and the pages flowing smoothly as the heroes flow in and out of danger. The Poison are a unique foe and his renderings do them justice! Some great close-ups of these strange creatures help increase the pace and make for a great read. It’s been a unique tale that Coello services well within these pages. Highlights include the Mighty Scragg splash page as he feels more power but ultimately takes on too much and the page depicting the arrival of our heroes, looking like they mean business.

In Conclusion:

This has been a truly unique tale as only mighty Marvel can tell it! The Poison are a foe that are unique in the annals of comicdom and if the rest of the Marvel universe can get back to basics with great story telling like this then they should have no problem picking up in sales. I’m anxious to see what the new take on the Fantastic 4 will be like and I hope it’s a return to basics! The Mighty Thor has Mjolnir again and is back in his rightful place as the god of thunder. The original Hulk is back from the dead. Tony Stark is back in his armor and all seems to be right with the universe…GO MARVEL! **** (9.2 rating)
