Denver Pop Culture Con 2019 Review
As of this writing, it’s been four days since Denver Pop Culture Con took place in downtown Denver, and there is a lot to reflect on. Before I dive into another year at Denver’s premier Con, I want to thank the DPCC Media team for allowing Comic Crusaders and the team a chance to cover the event. I had the chance to speak with, and interact with so many great people. From celebs, to artists, to fans, it really was a fun three day event.
Day One:
On day one of the event, we decided to break down the convention by first spending time with the Exhibitors of the convention. So many talented folks who were expressing themselves through arts and crafts, and so much more. We had an interview with Serenity Forge( a Boulder base video game company) who were very kind enough to showcase some of the amazing games they are currently working on. I had the interview taped and filmed, but because of bad audio, I am not able to upload it and share with everyone at this time, but head over over www.serenityforge.com to see what they have cooking.
From there we visited with a lot of smaller vendors and checked out the show floor. All I can say is that Denver Pop Culture Con really gets some amazing vendors and artists. We could have spent a week going through everything, and still would have not seen it all. We had a chance to have a private conversion with the legendary Ed Mcguinness, and he was very nice. From there we moved on to Greg Capullo, and he was kind enough to sign a Red Death statue for me at no charge. He was down to Earth and very friendly. It was at this point, we chatted with a few more creators to round out the day and headed home to prepare for day two.
Day Two:
We begin day two with an interview with the very talented TMNT artist Andy Kuhn. This interview was a highlight, and really was very insightful. I cant thank Andy enough for his time. Plus I had a chance to sneak in some toy talk, so it’s a win/win. From there we made ourselves down to some fun panels. We started off with the Armageddon or Are-Mistaken? Did Asteroid movies get it wrong? Which I have to say was very insightful and fun. From there we decided to check into the Women of NASA Panel, which was a delight and very eye opening. The panelists were fun and shared some amazing stories. At this point we split up to cover two different panels. I attended the Sex Industry in Science Fiction panel mostly out of curiosity as to what it would cover. I have to say that this panel covered tough subjects, but at the same time did it in a respectful and educational way that I highly recommend for all attendees. One of our other team members attended the Evolution of the Disney Princess in Pop Culture. She reported back that the crowd was full and energetic, and had a great time answers questions and talking Disney. From there we had a very late lunch, and decided to do something a little different. We headed back to the show floor and grabbed two of those mystery boxes that were being sold, and decided we should do an unboxing video to cap off day two.
Day Three:
So day three was a fun journey. We started off the fun with a special interview with Ben Bishop. He is not only a well known TMNT artist, but he is working hard on his own comic book The Aggregate. He was kind enough to take some time to talk comics, toys, and convention with us. From that point, we talked with convention guests about how they were enjoying the show and it was cool to hear so many folks were attending their first show this year. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits and having a great experience. From this point we headed to Celebrity Summit. I had a Alamo Drafthouse Shazam glass I wanted to get signed by Zackary Levi  and Asher Angel. Plus I decided to get dressed up as Tawny the Talking Tiger, so photo op had to happen. Despite the long lines and hectic schedle, the volunteer staff was kind and effective. the stars worked their tails off for the fans and I think DPCC should be proud of how it all came together.
All in all Denver Pop Culture Con was a blast. This event becomes bigger every year, but still manages to provide a fun and positive fan experience. I have to say with the new name change, this Con does cover Pop Culture in so many ways. Regardless if you are an adult or a kid, there is something for everyone. Which always makes the difference. Enjoy the pictures, and once again thank you Denver Pop Culture Con for allowing us to celebrate the wonderful event you put on.
